A Degree In Retailing, On The Job.

Team Leader (Former Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I worked at IKEA full-time for more than 5 years

ProsA wealth of continuing education, diverse ideology in regards to company culture, camaraderie, merit-based mobility opportunities actually can play out, on a world-wide basis.

ConsStagnant thought in leadership, has sometimes bred a complacent atmosphere. There is a contingency of connected co-workers in certain parts of the big box retailer.

Advice to Senior ManagementFollow the concepts laid out in the Company Handbook with more definition & commitment.

The Swede Life, or, how IKEA can make or break you...

Sales Co-worker (Current Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I have been working at IKEA full-time

ProsGreat company culture, constant learning environment, employee resources and benefits aplenty.

ConsCustomers often show a sense of entitlement, carelessness toward products and co-workers. Some cliques formed between co-workers make for less than ideal team cohesion. Some are allowed to "get away with murder" with little reprimand.

Advice to Senior ManagementShorten the track for co-workers to develop into leadership roles. Utilize each of our strengths responsibly.

GREAT place to work!

Bistro Cashier (Former Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I worked at IKEA part-time for more than a year

ProsTuition reimbursement, ability to grow in company, great hours, understanding staff, good food, great holiday parties for employees, good training process, can get extra hours by helping another department.

ConsSome of the management for specific departments are not experienced enough to have their positions, if you are not assertive it may be able to grow in a department, lack of supervision and guidance when an employee first starts

Glad its over!

Sales Associate (Current Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I have been working at IKEA

ProsHas really great benefits for part-time employees. I've never heard or seen anything like it. So really good benefits if you can stil it out to recieve them (three months for p1 emoployees). Best break room facility.

ConsMy hours were horrible. I wasnt proply trained or used to my full potention. My particular manager didnt invest in me. Management said Ididnt reach out enough, however my imediate supervisor was NEVER avaliable. It was a basic sale associate position, that anyone could do and master, but wasn't given the opportunity to do so.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake time to invest in your employees and be willing to think outside the box and not be so stringent on follow the model. The model should just be a guide.

Great place to work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I have been working at IKEA

ProsIKEA is one of the best employers I have worked for. The pay is decent, but hours are typically focused around the weekend.

ConsUnfortunately, IKEA has several co-workers that really don't care how they treat customers. This reflects badly on the store as a whole.

Advice to Senior ManagementLeadership at IKEA really needs to focus on providing superior customer service instead of the you're on your on "self-service" model.
