Pros
Products can be an affordable way to achieve a 'look', but must be mixed or utilized well to avoid screaming "IKEA". Products can be found worldwide; kitchens have a great reputation.
Cons
The store I worked at, in my department, was full of gossip, insider connections, hidden rules... No real chance of advancement per the double faced attitude of my manager. Promises of a 3 month review and salary raise, none of which were given. My own performance review at 12 months was continually put of by my manager. Training promised was never given. Store full of 'unwritten' rules, etc., etc. No respect was given me or my prior experience. I was hired to be set up and demoralized. I had loved the company for so many years prior o working there & none of my hard work, experieince, innovations were ever appreciated nor aknowledged; in fact, they were denigrated.
Pros
Extremely cheap medical/dental, long-term employees really know their stuff, starts higher than minimum wage, flexible with personal life, drug-free workplace, cheap employee lunch,
Cons
Hit or miss with Team Leads/Management knowing how to manage (correct "ethics"), raises really blow (nearly impossible to get high scores on evals no matter what you do), extremely political progression, jobs highly separated by race (cashiers/returns all Black, housekeeping/restaurant all Hispanic, sales mostly Asian), Communication/Interior design department think they run the store and other management for some reason.
Advice to Senior Management
Store/Sales Manager: Stealing a cookie from each department every time they have a meeting does not count as "getting to know your co-workers," or "listening to their concerns, and to other managers as well: you often times rely on the wrong people for accurate information. Get to know/talk with your co-workers.
Pros
friendly work atmoshere, personnel development and lots of opportunities for growth. All employees are given same treatment, respect and career development.
Cons
Salary packages are lower than the market for same positions.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work on employee development and offering good products at low prices for the many people. Keep Ingvar spirit alive.
Pros
IKEA has some of the best benefits out there. It's a privately owned company with European values, so employee benefits are top notch. For management postions, you start out with three weeks of vacation. Medical and dental are great, but the vision plan is a bit lacking.
Hours are quite flexible, and the work environment can be stressful at times but for the most part it is good.
Cons
You truly have to be a self starter to work at IKEA, because the training and competence development is non-existent. The IKEA store is a high-volume, low cost business, so there is limited investment in staffing and resources. It's pretty much bare-bones, so you have to be willing to support other departments and do things outside of your job description.
Upper management is out of touch with the department managers and hourly coworkers. They are focused strictly on bottom line results and do little to motivate employees. Instead they typically sit in meetings all day or in their office, with no clue as to what transpires out on the floor.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to get a better grip on managing your people. The inmates run the asylum and you have little influence and control.
Pros
Friendly employees , great customers always a good day at ikea
Cons
Have to be open at all times
Pros
Has really great benefits for part-time employees. I've never heard or seen anything like it. So really good benefits if you can stil it out to recieve them (three months for p1 emoployees). Best break room facility.
Cons
My hours were horrible. I wasnt proply trained or used to my full potention. My particular manager didnt invest in me. Management said Ididnt reach out enough, however my imediate supervisor was NEVER avaliable. It was a basic sale associate position, that anyone could do and master, but wasn't given the opportunity to do so.
Advice to Senior Management
Take time to invest in your employees and be willing to think outside the box and not be so stringent on follow the model. The model should just be a guide.
Pros
The best co-workers in the world. We are all one happy family supporting each other.
Cons
The pay is to low.
Advice to Senior Management
Increase my salary.
Pros
good work environment
management and hr is open to co- workers
Cons
internal politics is a cause of worry fr growth
Advice to Senior Management
as usual..pay need to be bit more standard
Pros
Good company to work for
Cons
customer service needs more help
Advice to Senior Management
Lead by example and help coworkers when they need it
Pros
the manager are nice to you, with part time you get benefits, you get discount on furniture, discount on food in the lunch room
Cons
if you request time off on a holiday weekend they won't give it to you, the reason why is because that's when they have the biggest sales so they need all the worker they can get, the pay is not good for the amount of work you do, i was getting paid 9hr and i handle about 3 department by myself, and you can forget about a raise at most is 15cents. i work here while in college to help pay for books, and stuff, this is a okay part time job but if this is your plan career i feel sorry for you, a lot of people hate there job in there
Advice to Senior Management
once i would like to tell management is your worker are not robots, instead of having one worker do everything you should stop being cheap and hire more worker, with economy the way it is that wouldn't hurt. the worker and customer are both not happy, for workers we are responsible to cover several department without help while the manager hides in their office not lifting a finger. for the customer not happy because they never could find a worker in the store the reason because in that big building there about 5 workers doing everything
