I used to love this company and now after a few years I want to leave.

Recovery Co-Worker (Current Employee)

I have been working at IKEA full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGood benefits, great learning environment, advancement opportunities, interesting culture.

Conslow pay, retail hours, Managers are a hit or miss.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe around your coworkers, your presence make us feel like you are working and not just giving us the grunt work. Do not talk negatively about coworkers, it makes it ok for everyone else to do so and creates a very negative work environment. There are some amazing managers here, but the ones who are not have way too much slack to do what they please with little repercussion.

Great Place. Not so great managers

Goods Flow Coworker II (Current Employee)
Paramus, NJ

I have been working at IKEA part-time for more than 3 years

ProsAwesome job with great benefits and store activities to keep you informed and well aware.

ConsSome of the managers aren't competent of the position they are in. Can get really rowdy and crowded. Not much motivation or inspiration to help you further your career within the company. You have to be all buddy buddy with upper management for you to advance within certain stores.

Advice to Senior ManagementAlthough you've introduced some nice incentives to the coworkers, some of us still feel left out and unappreciated at certain stores.

Expect to do alot work that your manager should probably be doing

Logistic Analyst (Current Employee)
Bolingbrook, IL

I have been working at IKEA full-time for more than 5 years

ProsVery active environment. The coworkers are all great people. The pay isn't horrible a retail job.

ConsThey take advantage of coworkers willing to do good work. Nepotism is rampant throughout the store. The way the office operates is absurd.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure the lower managers are doing their jobs.

IKEA & Changes

Visual Merchandiser (Former Employee)
Houston, TX

I worked at IKEA full-time for more than a year

ProsGreat all paid benefits...and time-off given. Good work environment. Stable employment.

ConsLack of pay in some areas. Upper management style in direct conflict of store nature. Don't know who is really running the company. Very Transparent.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou have no control of hiring staff based on need. Contracted HR Dept. unreachable by phone or email by applicants. Applicants need may need to reschedule; most employers have that option online.

I LOVE MY JOB

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at IKEA

Prosalthough the task at hand isn't thrilling, I look forward to working everyday. this is all due to my wonderful coworkers and management. ikea is a fun environment and the friendly colorfulness of the store honestly lightens up the work experience.

Consit's crazy busy! in a way, this makes work go by quickly, but sometimes is overstimulating on promotion weekends. ikea's goals for sustainability tend to interfere with customer wants for convenience. I'm entirely behind the sustainability but sometimes saying "we have no straws" "we have no plastic bags" etc. gets a little annoying.
