Pros
There are some excellent professionals at IKON as well as individuals who embody the "Peter Principle." Before accepting a position at IKON (now owned by Ricoh), be sure to ask to meet at least 5 members of what would be your team. You will need to depend on others to learn your job because management is very poorly trained at IKON.
Cons
As noted above, there is almost no training delivered within IKON to managers to assist them in doing things like performance reviews, succession planning, diversity enhancement etc. This results in a wide variation in skillsets among people managers.
Advice to Senior Management
Benchmark similar companies in the areas of HR and Employee Training and begin to deliver such training out to the field
Pros
Top class when it came to equipment and services. Benefits were average.
Cons
Poor support from ULM. Very difficult to get large or difficult deals done that required support from the corporate office or regional office.
Advice to Senior Management
Reach out to outlying areas more. Offer more ways for outer areas to get support through technology.
Pros
Good mix of experienced and new employees.
Good understanding of the products
Noticiable effort to communicate from executive level, especially in response to Japan's tsunami.
Most are very nice and helpful with atmosphere to do well.
Cons
Still challenged with the Ricoh-Ikon merger even with sales teamsl Residual 'us and them"
Sales challenged (but making progress) with embracing managed document services.
Advice to Senior Management
Seem to be moving in the right direction
Don"t overextend your IT organization.
Pros
Working 3rd shift in a fast-paced environment and getting a check every week.
If you can pay attention to details then you are mostly to succeed in this position.
Cons
I started as a temps so I was never allowed to work for than 37/hours.
After working for months for the company, I was told work was slow so I wouldn't being working for the next month or until the job orders picked up.
Advice to Senior Management
Managers are very respectful but they lack a lot of training required for the amount of work that is expected of them. There needs to be MORE training avaliable managers.
Pros
You can get great experience in sales and marketing. They give you the tools to be successful, and help you along the way with supportive staff.
Cons
Just like all sales jobs, if you dont perform they will kick you to the curb. This is a very competitive market, and the products are not priced competitively.
Advice to Senior Management
The only thing I can say is to treat people fairly, not equally. If I have been there for two years chances are I know what I am doing, dont treat me like a rookie.
Pros
They do offer the opportunity to advance your education
Cons
Mostly having to wear the IKON uniform
Advice to Senior Management
Really know the rules & procedures
Pros
Time off was good with vacation personal days beravement
Cons
No communication to employees, if you were not one of the "chosen ones" of uppermanagement you did not get promoted. Didn't matter that your job evauation was excellent
Advice to Senior Management
Starter position
Pros
The base pay is equal to or above industry standards and it is possible - in a good economy and with the right training - to make good money here.
Cons
The amount of paperwork is ridiculous and the CRM updating requirements will add about 2 hours to your already long day.
The management plays favorites and can be quite disrespectful to employees who are not part of their 'good old boys' club. Not a great place to work if you're not a white, straight, male jock.
I finally left on the advice of my doctor - the long hours, constant pressure to do twice as many cold calls (30 cold calls daily) as my workmates, lack of proper training and support, and overall high stress levels caused my immune system to breakdown.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your Human Resources! Give them more respect and acknowledgement, they know what they're talking about when it comes to diversity, workplace harassment/ bullying/ exclusion, etc.
Pros
Your Co-workers (Non-Management), Companies reputation for Sales training, Time Management, Sales Contest
Cons
Micro Managed, Management has no respect for AE's and know that they can replace you at the drop of a hat, Turnover is so high that each of my previous territories have had 3 reps in 1 year (which has caused us to lose customers). Compensation is delayed, gas expenses are triple what your allowance is, Morale is terrible (Co-worker lunches are always about how much they hate this job), if you do get a deal signed you will spend another 2-3 weeks dealing with paperwork and delivery which slows down your sales cycle. If you have an opprtunity to work here, do not take it. I have never seen so many people so miserable at their job. The only people who have been there over 1 year are people who have a kid and families to take care of, and even they tell you to get out before its too late.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop reading spreadsheet and following activity and be more hand on. Reps and Managers Quotas need to be same delvery date, commissions should be an automatic 2 weeks after correctly signed, SImplify order processes, increase gas allowance (I go through a monthly allowance in 1 week)
Pros
Ikon provides a $300 dollar per month reimbursement for gas, lunches etc for business.
Commission structure changes quarterly.
Ample sales promotions each quarter
Endless supply of managers for each sales rep to lean on.
Cons
The compensation is extremely weak.
Management displays open favoritism towards individuals.
Promotions are solely based on friendships not qualifications or experience.
The Sales Promotions are a joke.
It's managements way or you're out.
Advice to Senior Management
Seriously, if management was open to advice and actually took action, this company would be much better. That's the problem, they don't.
