I worked at IMAX full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

IMAX is a very cool company to work for. The office is nice and the people are really great. The office politics aren't bad for a company. The benefits are good and you get to see a lot of great movies.

    Cons

The salaries aren't very high. They don't seem to value long-term employees as much as some other companies might.

    Pros

Very nice people with a positive team culture.

    Cons

HQ in NY and Main operation in Canada makes it challenging.
Company run in a traditional manner. Management very focused on shareholders.

    Pros

Great health benefits package and non-monetary compensation
reasonable work load, not highly stressful
    Great perks like movie tickets
    fun Technology to work with

    Cons

very few opportunities for career advances, in fact many managers seems to not care about staff career at all.
non-supportive HR in general, mostly take upper management sides.
Technical expertise are not well perceived, soft skills are much valued by upper management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

focus more on staff career growth and streamline HR to do that more effectively

I worked at IMAX full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

One of the best things about working for Imax is the free friends and family movies. Most of the people who work there are amazing, and generally it is an easy going atmosphere. Until recently, the benefit package was extremely good, but it has been lowered in the last couple of years.

    Cons

Quite a few long time employees have been let go in the last 2 years for no good reason.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I suggest Imax needs to go back to appreciating it's long time employees, considering they have been loyal and willing to work their butts off when the company has gone through difficult times.

I worked at IMAX as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Flexible contracts made it great to work here as a student.
    - The work wasn't too taxing at all.
    - Got to see some films for free.

    Cons

    - Flexible contracts meant that during quiet seasons, you weren't guaranteed any shifts. Once the student loan ran out, it wasn't viable to work here anymore.
    - Very basic work.
    - Saw the same films over and over and over and over.

I have been working at IMAX full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Movies! Family and friends screens for big blockbusters, a well-known brand, some of the best benefits I have ever encountered. Salaries are very competitive. The work is rewarding. People are extremely friendly and approachable with no drama. Everyone works as a cohesive team. A great sense of job security.

    Cons

The success of the business is largely dependent upon the success of Hollywood. Some years are better than others. Some years miss corporate bonuses. The industry is always in flux.

No respect from senior management for employees and their hard work. They "talk to talk" but don't "walk the walk".

    I worked at IMAX

    Pros

If you are lucky to work for a good supervisor, it is a good place to work. Interesting product and lots of brand recognition.

    Cons

The CEO's and senior management do not respect employees and are mostly concerned with their own salaries.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Real people work for them and they need to remember their salaries are a result of the hard work by those good people.
