    I worked at IMI Cornelius

    Pros

This is a company that has a very exciting future. The new owners are very supportive and dedicated to change the culture and grow the company. New structure will create many opportunities for professional growth.

    Cons

The long time employees are negative and resistant to change. CEO has been there too long and creates negativity in the long term employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at IMI Cornelius full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Nice Co-Workers, Treated well by Management. Supported on-going education.

    Cons

Sometime tough to get the information needed from other departments to complete tasks. Raises were minimal even when we were told our profits were good.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give better raises. Reward hard work and longevity.

I have been working at IMI Cornelius full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

It's a job, and if you can stick it out, it's yours for as long as you want it.

    Cons

I'm trying my best to be diplomatic. But if you vale your professional skills, have self respect, and any clue about how an organization should work, don't do this to yourself. Check your soul at the door and prepare to be disrespected regularly - by your coworkers. The culture is really odd...passive aggressive upper management that allows people in program reviews who are cross-functional "colleagues" scream at each other - all the time. In the open. In front of upper management. Who do nothing! The worst in-fighting are people in Operations - middle-aged males frustrated in their dead end roles - with young, hungry, talented Engineering counterparts. You can guess which team is fleeing in droves - Engineering, who are going elsewhere for better pay, more challenge, and supportive companies with career development prospects.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think the best and smartest thing that Marmon (new owners) can do is look at the list of people who have left this organization in the past 2-3 years. Look on LinkedIn where these people are now. Contact them and understand why they left, and why they'd never come back today. More importantly, look at the current organization and review what's left. As you can guess, these are the unmotivated and the unmarketable. Eliminate the bitter employees in the areas that have open conflict today. This is an obvious group of people that have needed to go for a long while - and who are a drag on the organization and its results. Get new blood in at the top levels. Find achievers in Cornelius or in other organizations (Marmon or elsewhere), challenge them, evaluate the rest, and remove the problems.

I have been working at IMI Cornelius full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

It's a job, and easy hours. No more than 8 per day - whether you're hourly, salaried, laborer, executive...

    Cons

This is a dead end job and a dying company, in the simplest terms. The pay raises are scrawny at 1% a year, so that average salary they offered you when you were hired... yep, you'll be stuck making that for the remainder of your time at the company. They don't promote from within - in very, very rare cases there might be a "lateral moves" (always at the VP or C-suite level) to new assignments. The work in general while easy, is monotonous and requires very little critical thinking skills. The revolving door is continual, and it is not unusual to see a new batch of employees (usually temps, or contractors) each week.

The biggest issue with this company is that they DO NOT PROMOTE FROM WITHIN. It's peculiar, but any person at a managerial level has been hired from outside the company. If you are interviewing, ask to speak to someone in your future/potential department that's been promoted. You'll come up empty... and then ask why?

Individual or critical thinking is usually deterred by the environment and there is a tremendous culture gap between outside hire managers, and the "grunts" in various departments that have been there for years, but with no advancement. Also, there is almost an adversarial relationship between those that work in the Operations and Manufacturing areas and those that work in Engineering and Commercial. These groups are intentionally kept apart and the culture is horrendous. The only time that there feels like some sort of "team" is during the goodbye celebrations (when people leave the company, where many drink quite a bit on the company dime, and often get inappropriate.

There is really nowhere to go in this company, either sideways or out. If you join, consider it a job (if you need it) and/or a short- to mid-term stepping stone job to get some experience, get a degree... and make sure to get out of there before you become unmarketable.

    Cons

Top management is clueless. One IT director hire someone , after few days newly hired IT Director fired the employee without any reason or without any notice. Extremely strange environment to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at IMI Cornelius full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Since company changed hands, there is little reason to work here. The direction of the company is not clear and the senior leadership team has completely turned over twice in the last two years.

    Cons

Switching to a new owner has brought disruption to workplace and displacement to work force. Each week brings more departures; including recent departure of the newest VP of Finance, only in job for six weeks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stabilize senior management and present solid direction for employees.

I have been working at IMI Cornelius full-time

    Pros

The company has a lot of growth potential through new product launches.

    Cons

It is a very stressful environment to work in due to the company's philosophy of operating with limited staffing to achieve high margins. A company culture of where employees are just a number.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The current company culture toward employees is not sustainable in the long term.

I worked at IMI Cornelius full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Pay and benefits are average.

    Cons

Disjointed approach to business. Most employees treated poorly, with a management approach that breeds discontent across all company levels. It is not worth investing a day of your career with this company. It is a negative culture. On the whole it is not an employee friendly company.

There is no career development or promoting from within. You will not be given accurate information how to succeed. Your manager will not spend time to help you develop skills needed to become more valuable, because he (no females to speak of - only one in a leadership position company-wide) will be too busy worrying about his job.

Direct your positive energy towards other career opportunities. You will not be happy at Cornelius.

In addition - the numbers are tanking. After all these years in the business, Cornelius continues to struggle and clearly does not understand the customer / enduser base and what motivates them to buy products. At the same time, the competition understands them and has a very effective strategy with end users and distributors alike. The market share of the competitors in some areas is alarming.

The senior leaders of this company are ineffective, lack creativity at all levels and have no clear vision to move the company forward. They are one dimensional, with a lack of overall market/business experience and leadership. They are safe as the UK ownership seems to be happy with their ineffective management of the business. If only the ownership knew how bad these so called company leaders are, and the devastating impact they are having on market share, business and sales - not to mention, attrition and departures of the best future leaders of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Update your management style to the new century. If you continue to do what you have always done the turnover rate and dismal financial results are inevitable, Take notice of who's leaving your company - the best of the best. Sooner or later, the talented people of the world are realizing that this is not where they want to spend their career - and going elsewhere.

I worked at IMI Cornelius full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You will never be bored or idle at work - there is a tremendous amount of work to do, and not enough people to do it.

    Cons

The turnover is at an all-time high. Some of the best leaders and department heads in the Glendale Heights business have left or have been let go since January, which has caused tremendous issues. Morale is low and getting worse - with poor financial results and good people leaving left and right, the people that remain are bearing the brunt of the desperation the organization is dealing with.

Very negative environment in general, with a lot of back-stabbing and finger-pointing. The dysfunction starts with the senior leadership team, and permeates throughout the organization. Expectations and demands change daily and are typically unrealistic. There is no communication about the future or when things are going to get better - employees are generally not confident in the direction of the company and their roles.

There is limited room for advancement and all manager, director, and vp positions are hired from outside. Most high performers are gone within 2-3 years, escaping the toxic environment and insane work demands, to better positions and higher compensation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None - it's a lost cause, I tried for the three years I was there and as I was leaving. No one on the senior leadership team wants to hear it.
