Great Place to Work. I had a great experience while I was there.

    Sales Engineer (Former Employee)

ProsGreat people, fantastic benefits, travel for those that want to travel, great opportunities to learn.

ConsSometimes new managers change things for the sake of changing to show that they did something when really sometimes the best thing to do is not change anything at all.

Advice to Senior ManagementI listened to the President of one of IMI's clients give a great piece of advice, "When you are new to a position, don't change anything for 90 days."

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

ProsInternational presence, good cultural exposure for those that don't mind travel.

ConsMultinational company ran out of IMI HQ. Too many decisions have to go to IMI vs. group company leadership. The smartest people are not working in IMI HQ.

Advice to Senior ManagementTax benefits should be understood after your company strategy. Tax should not be a driving factor for where you place leaders and should not be the basis for decisions. Very short term. You should understand the risks at CCI.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Global graduate programme

    Global Graduate (Former Employee)

ProsLots of opportunity to travel, good training, excellent work opportunities in different areas of the company. You need to take ownership of your programme, and make the most of it. You have an excellent opportunity to be recognised by top management

ConsPoor organisation of visas, bad communication with headquarters HR, and (unless you have a mentor) no real progression in terms of difficulty of placements. Not the greatest pay.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore communication with the graduates.

A steady, solid and profitable UK conglomerate with good international and varied functional opportunities

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Birmingham, England (UK)

ProsA diverse and growing conglomerate with a wide range of opportunities in different functions in various geographies. Good opportunity to travel with many management roles, and a chance to make a real difference internally, with the company looking to improve in many areas.

ConsSome internal communication and consistency can be lacking, and depending on the company within the group, it can be quite hierarchical or political. It is a conservative company, so do not expect wild innovations or rapid growth initiatives.

Advice to Senior ManagementStructured career progress plans, together with performance feedback and group-wide structure around training and development would be beneficial. Some processes need benchmarking with best-in-class and more investment could be made for the medium term rather than cost-cutting initiatives.

ProsThere is definitely room to grow for this company. Pros of working here are that it is an international company that is well spread geographically, hence there are always opportunities for staff to request for inter-company transfers to multi-disciplinary roles. The company also has lots of room to grow, given its well-diversified businesses, albeit related (directly / indirectly) to pneumatics. Certainly a very challenging environment to work in, although becoming increasingly pressurising with constant departures of experienced ground staff and appointments of less competent management staff who appears to be micro-managing the companies by focusing on short term goals instead of long term aims.

ConsThe company has (in my personal opinion) poor market strategy. They strive to differentiate themselves from the market by claiming to offer innovative products - hence commanding higher margins. However, they fail to listen to the market and instead, tends to tell the market what they need. This results in customers more often than not, complaining that product prices are too high for something that is not entirely differentiated. Being listed on the exchange also creates a management that is constantly looking at numbers and figures, budget forecasts etc which is disappointing to note.

Advice to Senior Managementwhile it is sometimes true that price is not always the overriding factor in obtaining market share and good margins, take a leaf out of SMC, which has progressed to dominate world market share with fairly innovative, reliable products.
