I worked at IMRE part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Very casual. No need for dress code. Lots of seminars and events by scientists in the field. Very complete equipment.

    Cons

Too much red carpet, too much safety related policies that stop anything from getting done. Next to no funding for labs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut down on the excessive safety concerns.

I worked at IMRE as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

If you are an intern, this is definitely the place to learn new things not taught in school

Supervisor is really caring, patient and willing to teach

A great place to consider if you are into research

    Cons

The reason why there are some are interns is because they are cheap labour, some of them are even not paid. It is really unfair to "make use" of interns to do all the dirty work like data processing.

Interns need to share the computers to do work. If you arrive early, you get the computer. If you are late, that is your problem. Often interns need to fight over computers.

There will be times where you will be very busy or very free. If you are very free, you can just sit around and rot the whole day.

Interns are treated like young kids and require supervision whenever in labs.

I have been working at IMRE

    Pros

Most of the laboratories in the institute are equipped with top-notch equipments. There are also good number of scientific talks (much more than in the local universities).

    Cons

scientists beware: not quite good management you can expect. Thanks to the byzantine levels in the institute, climbing the toward the management level becomes next to impossible.
