I worked at IMS Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice people. Nice benefits. This a good position for starting out and moving on after a couple of years.

    Cons

No real room for growth. Understaffed. Underpaid. The pay is very, very low from area average. PTO offered is not inkeeping for a global company of this size. Little to no merit increases. There is a bit of office drama with some individuals that needs to be handled.

    Advice to Management

Offer a fair salary and PTO and you'll have less turn over and you'll retain qualified staff. Hire the appropriate amount of staff to help with business growth and to meet the increasing needs of current clients.

I worked at IMS Health full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Virtual monopoly on Rx data protects market share in core business of pharma sales force effectiveness. Slow pace makes for good work/life balance. Logo has nice range of blue colors.

    Cons

IMS is slow to move and reluctant to invest in new technologies which means they are not successful at penetrating new markets. There is a disconnect between strategy and execution which causes morale issues. A move towards off-shoring and driving down wages means top talent is scarce.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to do acquisitions without killing companies. Dump your stock now before your core business begins to erode as healthcare reform passes you by.

I have been working at IMS Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great group of coworkers. Flexible schedules. Good benefits.

    Cons

Company continues to purchase other companies without any real direction. After every acquisition there are huge layoffs. Work being off shored to save money but quality of work has declined. Low morale as everyone waits for next round of layoffs. Bonus totally depends on manager and nothing to do with performance.

    Pros

Office culture is easygoing. People are professional yet not as stuffy as I expected. Most people seem to enjoy their jobs but not the company. People are saying that prior to the merger, IMS was more employee conscious and that all the strongest people left.

    Cons

They care more about saving and making money than establishing a good working environment or developing their future with the company. Clearly they don't prioritize employee job satisfaction at all. Everyone is rated with how much money they bring in or save, even if we're not in sales. We're computer and bio-pharm people, not salesmen.

    Advice to Management

If you pay the lowest salary in the industry, you will get what you pay for. All the best qualified employees will go elsewhere and IMS will be left scraping the bottom of the barrel. Counting on foreign workers and entry-level recent grads will eventually turn IMS into an obscure data mill unable to compete with evolving technology with Wal-Mart quality products but without their level of service. Talented and innovative people don't work for peanuts.
