I have been working at IMS Health full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great work/life balance, lots of talented and pleasant people to work with

    Cons

There seems to be a lot going on in terms of restructuring, moving, etc. In the current economy, change is not surprising. The problem is that the changes aren't broadly communicated until there's been an information leak via the rumor mill. The salary is ok-- not anything to jump up and down about but not horrible, either.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be transparent about changes that impact peoples' lives. Don't take talented people for granted.

I worked at IMS Health full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good people working, but there is a lot of uncertainty in resources available to conduct work. Training is negligent.

    Cons

Departments could work together easier. Seems some areas are secretive of information / data available.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management does not rely on SMEs or groups that provide the higher income (higher potential sales and more clients) and instead relies on bureaucracy.

Former Employee - Senior Consultant in Falls Church, VA

I worked at IMS Health full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work culture, understanding and supporting colleagues, no pressure if you are good at your work, a big company with global presence allows many opportunities to explore different areas, if intended

    Cons

Meager bonus, if you are unlucky then you might get a bad manager who doesn't care about your career but that really can't be blamed on your company, it could happen anywhere

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Occasionally Principals and DIrectors get busy with business development only, and Consultants and Analysts have to carry the heavy project workload. Senior management, please make sure that there is equal work sharing.

I have been working at IMS Health full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Some great people here at the local SF office overshadowed by a massive slow company that can not evaluate talent

    Cons

Upper Management is a mess. Seems like there almost is none except confusion, I think they do not understand the software world.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn about software if you can.

I have been working at IMS Health full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Since IMS Health is shifting from a market data provider to a consulting and services company, the opportunities for professional growth are tremendous, specially in non-US offices

I have been working at IMS Health as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

-fast paced environment is good for those with a strong work ethic
    -interesting and challenging work
    -friendly and collaborative environment
-you are given autonomy to take care of your workload; not much micro-managing from what I can tell
    -always something to learn
-generally, management is good about communicating with its employees regarding individual / departmental performance, and also regarding the overall state / direction of the company
-informative town hall meetings inform any employee who wishes to attend about the state of the company / business unit on a quarterly basis
-a true "global" atmosphere and model...offers opportunity to gain international experience
    -solid benefits
-very good HR and recruiting departments
-payscale has been improving for most positions to be on par with competitor companies
-very strong vacation, work from home, tuition reimbursement, and retirement plans
-very profitable company and most business units hit most to all of their bonus targets
-company has grown by 10% + revenue in each of past 3 years, while remaining very lean

    Cons

-like any mid-sized company, politics sometimes come in to play; can be difficult to introduce new ideas or push your initiatives into play if senior management disagrees
-many contractors uncertain if / when they can become full time
-can be difficult to tell best way for individual advancement within the company
-some uncertainty with pending purchase / IPO of the company

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to be transparent to the employees.
