    Pros

Flexible environment to work from home.

    Cons

Senior management has difficulties managing a new fast-changing environment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Delegate more tasks and responsibilities to lower levels. Hold people accountable for their failures and fire people when needed. It is the only way to retain your good people. Otherwise they will flee

    Pros

ING Belgium offers you to take up responsibilities in a BIG organisation, with all the related challenges. It just doesn't matter if you have bank/finance professional experience, or not. The outsider expertise is much appreciated here.

Grasp the opportunity! It's worth it.

    Cons

The compensation package might be at the lower side, depending where you are coming from.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure your compensation package is levelled with the market, so you can keep hiring people that make a difference for ING Belgium and its customers.

I have been working at ING Belgium as a contractor (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Interesting projects in an excellent work-life balance, a lot of benefits to its employees. Given you all the opportunities to grow your career. You'll get to know new technologies, work with a lot of different software integrators on challenging projects even when you are not working on things like mobile apps or home bank. Great company culture where collaboration and innovation are amongst the highest cherished values!

    Cons

If you don't like change you are probably better of elsewhere :) Deal with it and you have a great learning track ahead of you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep it going! Keep rewarding the excellent employees and everything is possible.

    Pros

Good leadership development and training offering. Commercial dynamics with great internal/external marketing. Fair renumeration and good work-life balance in many parts of the organisation.

    Cons

Too much commercial pressure. Frequent short-term changes endangering employee motivation and causing BOHICA as well as fear effect for many.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create consistency in strategic direction. Build a communication flow and stepwise implementation that sustains change where you give employees/management ample time to embrace the change.

Though ING is a bank like any other, it's an interesting and challenging job if you pick the right department

I worked at ING Belgium full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    * If you work for the right departments, like the online banking department, the job can be very interesting and challenging
    * Work life balance is very good. You never work long hours or weekends. 35 days of paid holidays and bank holidays
    * My direct managers were very professional and I learned a lot from them. Though that depends on the department and a bit of luck
    * Many trainings to choose from
    * The offices are easy to reach in the center of Brussels

    Cons

    * Too much procedures, policies, rules, forms and other types of red tape
    * Slow and political decision making. It takes ages to deliver a project
    * Very hierarchical. You often have to defend your ideas to multiple (disagreeing) levels of management
    * Too permissive of bad performers which discourages talented people to stay
    * It's hard to get a raise or a promotion unless you have a lot of patience
    * Most employees see ING as their job for life. It's almost as if working for a government organization

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create pockets inside the organization where policies are kept at a minimum, wages and promotions are given to talented risk takers, which will able to bring the company forward.

I have been working at ING Belgium full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great colleagues, many international opportunities if you're willing to make the necessary sacrifice, provides a lot of training in different domains (management, behavioural, language skills), good work-life balance.

    Cons

Certain corporate jobs centered in Amsterdam. Reduced budgets for international opportunities following the recent crisis. Salary package much lower than peers. Human Resource Management practically inexistant!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on human capital by providing better accompaniment in light of recent / ongoing internal changes.

I have been working at ING Belgium

    Pros

Good pay and bonuses (including 30% discount on all services including mortgage)

    Cons

Non-competitive environment, people don't seem motivated to make an extra effort

  11.

Former Employee - Relationship Manager in Brussels (Belgium)

    I worked at ING Belgium

    Pros

Good name on a CV, I have had oportunities afterwards because people (in lesser industries) are somewhat impressed. Big company woldwide, opportunity to travel / live abroad (as I have). Great benefits once you get to the senior level. I have also seen senior people who travelled a lot throughout their career and had the chance to do something different every couple of years, ie go from corporate banking to real estate to cash management, and they seem to appreciate that - it's not something you can necessarily do everywhere.

    Cons

Bureaucracy. Company is too big, no sense of urgency.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More training. Pay those who work hard better. Brighten up the dull work environment.
