Pros
There seems to be promotion from with in and room to move around, but you have to be in your current position 1 year before they will consider it.
Cons
The pay is very low compared to other companies. you have to wait at least 1 year to move. I heard teh last 2 years there have been almost NO raises or bonuses, which they promise when the hire you on.
Advice to Senior Management
communication.
Pros
From a corporate employee perspective ING FP is not afraid to invest in your professional growth. If you keep pushing to improve and increase your value, they will recognize it when opportunities open.
From a field sales perspective, you have an organization with a highly ingrained culture toward allowing a rep to manage a very independent practice.
Cons
Small critique that may not have a great solution: Because the culture is independent and empowering, you run the risk of individuals, both internally and in the field, making snap decisions without seeking appropriate feedback from their colleagues.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the departments communicating and aware fo changes going on amongst them. One decision affects all.
Pros
excellent benefits package, tuition reimbursment program
Cons
salary is not very competitive but you can get by
Advice to Senior Management
Managemetn could engage thier employee more
Pros
work life balance, flexibility in working hours
Cons
too much bearutic, approval based organization
Advice to Senior Management
allow managers to work freely
Pros
The opportunity to work in the school market. Excellent for experienced reps in the business. They can actually build a business and control their schedule.
Cons
Not really good at training new reps in the industry. The training wasn't there. It was promised but never happened. You had to reach out to experienced reps to build a foundation and split commission.
Pros
Dutch work culture is very good. Direct communication, not much bureaucracy compared to other organizations. Secondary benefits such big discount and mortgage and educational facilities are some of best in the Netherlands. Despite the whole splitting of and selling parts of business the atmosphere is good. In these troubling times it feels like a very solid and capable institution with smart and dedicated people on pretty much all levels. Quite happy working here.
Cons
The biggest con is the salary...it is absolutely ridiculous. The whole pay scale system is very rigid. Even if you do a good job the advancement is minimal in real dollar terms. It pays to job hob and negotiate, because once within the system you can't really move salary wise. I think the bank will lose talented people to companies/countries with higher compensation.
Advice to Senior Management
People are greatest asset...now put your money where your mouth is. Pay is not keeping track with workload and inflation in economy.
Pros
You get really great benefits and paid time off right off the bat. The people are very friendly and the trainers are really helpful. They also have a great program where if you have to commute a long distance to work and there is a snowstorm they will put you up in a nice hotel near the job.
Cons
Very stressful job because you are dealing with people's 401(k)s and retirement money. A lot of people don't understand the laws and rules around their 401(k)s and take it out on you. You also are not allowed to stand up for yourself or ask people to calm down or anything, you just have to take what the customer dishes out at you. They also throw new clients at you regardless of if they think you're ready or not.
Advice to Senior Management
The leadership really doesn't have a whole lot to improve on. It's just an unfortunate business and you have to take the job at face value.
Pros
It harnesses some of the old school characters, where people are treated as people with varying needs, whilst maintainin an attention to profitability. Was one of the happiest places I've worked.
Cons
Not perhaps quite as aggressive a company as it could have been, which resulted in being a market follower versus a leader. Needed a little more creativity to think originally and be a true leader in the market place.
Advice to Senior Management
Think forward and invest in original thinkers more.
Pros
Great people, awesome experience to learn and to grow, especially just starting in the finance world, great management as well
Cons
Could potentially have had more structured intern program, in terms of introducing to other groups and other areas of the company
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on teaching, but otherwise, great leadership to learn from, to interact with on a daily basis, and to ultimately be friends with in the end.
Pros
Good pay and benefits. Friendly people. Every day was a different challenge and you have the opportunity to make your own schedule.
Cons
No job advancement. Lack of performance appraisal system. Management didn't seem to care if we were interested in advancing our career.
Advice to Senior Management
Create more team building exercises and a more fun place to work for team members who worked out of the regional sales offices.
