Pros
The managers work with you and are very helpful with you in the learning process. The employees I worked along with were helpful and knowledgeable as well.
Cons
It seemed like it was difficult to move up or around to different sectors of the company. I would have like to see more opportunities to move around the company for better experience.
Advice to Senior Management
Management was very helpful, but I would like to see a better management program where employees can move up in the company and work in different sectors.
Pros
Interesting work. Experienced colleagues. Great location.
Cons
Below market compensation. Limited opportunity for upward mobility and increased responsibility.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve compensation.
Pros
Good compensation package. Steady paycheck. Competitive bonus stucture. Diverse company and generally a stable place to work, at least before the IPO (which is casting uncertainty on the future).
Cons
Career growth virtually non-existent. Good resume building opportunity to work for a large institution, then take skills and knowledge to another company with a path to career growth.
Advice to Senior Management
Middle management needs to take the employee survey more seriously and upper management needs to hold them accountable to do so. The low percentages across the board in some departments on promotions and people deserving them are very telling, and the reason why talented people look elsewhere.
Pros
Great hours and work/life balance with decent vacation time. It was a good starting point. Offer tuition reimbursement up to approx 5200 per year.
Cons
Manager that has majoirty of duties stripped, keeps title and salary. Also, there is not much respect shown from mgt to other employees
Advice to Senior Management
Look into the basis of servant leadership, this may create a happier team and allow for an increase in learning.
Pros
Good woork-life balance, always something new going on, encouraged community involvement and people are good to work with on a day to day basis.
Cons
The focus appears to be on cost cutting as growth prospcts are difficult to capitalize on. All of this makes promotional opportunities difficult.
Advice to Senior Management
A large investment management firm that is involved in many strategies does not always equate to success. A niche that is done really well is a vision that employees can more easily buy into and get behind.
Pros
Excellent work-life balance, lots of opportunities for promotion if you're good at what you do
Cons
Not a leader in the field
Advice to Senior Management
Spend more time at the communal coffee machine
Pros
- Excellent people
- Flexible work hours
- Worldwide brand recognition
ING IM has excellent global branding and in general is an excellent place tow rok
Cons
- Managements' communication abilities leave something to be desired. The culture is a little laid back by US standards and the company doesn't necessarily compete with the top tier US banks
Advice to Senior Management
Recruiter higher caliber candidates out of school. Invest more time in rotational and post MBA programs to attract top talent. Focus on instilling a particular company culture.
Pros
ING IM business is profitable, exciting and growing
Cons
Association and sometimes dependance on Insurance business is a drag to Investment Management business
Advice to Senior Management
Asset management would be a great business is if would decouple from Insurance
Pros
- collegial, friendly atmosphere;
- extended vacation and other perks;
- community involvement
Cons
- compensation is far below market rate for most jobs;
- corporate uncertainty has brought morale to the ground and encouraged turnover
- dominance of European mentality makes the firm and products less competitive
Advice to Senior Management
Wake up. The very fiber that makes up the company is unraveling before your eyes. A company is only good as the talent it can hire and retain.
Pros
fairly entrepreneurial, lot of good people, decent footprint, good coverage by wall street day-to-day
Cons
weak leadership in americas and europe
Advice to Senior Management
Understand the americas business better and make intelligent business and capital allocation decisions
