I have been working at ION Media Networks full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The benefits at ION are pretty good, Health, Vision and Dental coverage. There are a few perks, lunches and snacks provided on special occasions, outings celebrating certain milestones with co-workers, paid vacation days. All ION employees that I have come in contact with have been great people, very friendly and willing to help. Teamwork!!

    Cons

Limited growth opportunity in certain departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Training experience is great, very organized. Would like to see more team building amongst all employees.

I worked at ION Media Networks full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Fun Work Environment:
You'll work with great people who love what they do
Lots of events for the staff (potluck, Christmas party etc.)

    Cons

Very poor management from senior staff
Constant state of confusion and change

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out what your company culture is and stick with it. Ensure that your senior staff members are on board and properly trained in relaying this culture to the rest of the staff.

I have been working at ION Media Networks full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You are working and get a steady paycheck.
The company brand name is growing

    Cons

Owned by a hedge fund which really only cares about them making a profit. This means your position will be reduced to the lowest staff available. So you may end up doing the work of 2 -3 people.

DO NOT expect a raise for something as simple as cost of living. Some people have worked for 7 years without a raise for cost of living adjustments. Which means if you start the company for 30K and 5 years later you will be making 30K while inflation rises thus decreases your buying power. When you ask for salary you should ask for enough to get you by knowing the chances of you making more down the road is slim.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop boasting about how much of a profit you are bringing in for the company when you are not sharing it with the employees that are underpaid, overworked, no raises with little to no opportunity to grow.

    Pros

If you're a young, 20-something, social butterfly, party-type then this is the culture for you. Personally, too much of a high school overtone for me. I gave the company a 3 because they're not the worst out there and cater lunch sometimes

    Cons

A lot of narcissist personalities to deal with in media. Very disorganized from the top down and not the highest pay. Sales Analyst/Account executive seems to pay in the 40k range.. Again, this is media.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Organize, organize, organize. Have clear, defined roles for jobs and stop trying to squeeze two jobs out of the ONE job you hired a person for. Quick way to bring morale down. Another reason turnover is HIGH here.

    Pros

No pros that I can think of. A really bad place to work.
    The severance was generous.
A union is forming, but that is too little too late.

    Cons

90% of the staff is being laid off because of corporate greed. Instead of retraining people for other jobs, they are laying us off. There aren't any jobs anymore in the industry. My husband worked at another TV station, but they let all their production people go, so we're both unemployed with 2 kids.

The pay was crap, advancement was nil.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe you should listen to the union people and make the changes they recommend.
Do you actually know how messed up the job market is in broadcast or cable?

A TV station shouldn't cater to the whims of one man.

    Pros

The people are nice the problem is that a lot have left or been let go. The coffee is good.

    Cons

Los Angeles office is a boys club. The office is unethical and there is no support if upper management does not like you. .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote minorities and woman. Pay your employees what you said you would do. Treat your employees like adults. Management is not God.

I have been working at ION Media Networks full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Some good people remain but most are not recognized unless they suck up to senior management.

    Cons

The three people that started the sales team and made the division successful, two in NY and one in Chicago are all gone. One died, one got cancer, the other was forced out and replaced by cheaper less experienced talent. Those of us still here will always remember who trained us and set the bar for the company to grow. We miss you guys..................

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To the board of directors: Terminate all key senior managers and start fresh with people that are positive thinkers.

    Awful Work Environment All Around

I worked at ION Media Networks full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There is some very good talent here but unless you are "in" with senior management, you will never be recognized.

    Cons

According to what I've heard, management never wants you to be "too comfortable" here so you are not allowed to personalize your office or cubicle. The result is an extremely sterile work environment. Senior management often uses scare tactics and are downright nasty to staffers. Employees are disgruntled, angry, and underpaid. Many doing the bare minimum / not supportive of each other as a result. I've heard employees being yelled at / cursed at on numerous occasions. Normal rules to do not apply here. Staffers are treated like cogs on a wheel.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As in all aspects of life, treat others the way you would like to be treated.
