    A Hard-working Family

    Pros

There's always something new to learn, and if you're willing to work hard and are committed to put the time in, you will be rewarded at IQ, and you'll meet some pretty awesome people along the way. Upper level management is supportive and willing to provide mentorship to staff looking for growth, as long as you are willing to work hard and take initiative to get the job done right. There's no hand holding at IQ. But if you work hard and are a team player, you'll find that your fellow employees are very supportive, a lot like family. There's always going to be a cousin that you don't hear from too often, and you may question what they do with all their time. Or an aunt who always seems to be out to lunch when you need help on a project. But generally, you can find the support you need if you know where to look for it.

Bottom line, if you dive in head first, ask the right questions, and are willing to work hard, knowing that every day will be different, you will succeed and enjoy your time at IQ. While new HR policies and the peer mentor program have improved the employee on-boarding process, the expectation is on you to ask the right questions, including those regarding policies, procedures, and 'how things work' within the company.

The corporate culture supports employees as much as possible to achieve a work-life balance, despite regularly stressful workdays. The wellness initiative is growing to support employees who have varying health and wellness goals to achieve this "balance." IQ offers a great remote work policy and managers are generally understanding of commitments outside of work that come up. Health benefits are good. HR is knowledgeable and supportive. Overall compensation could be improved.

    Cons

See 'Advice to Management' regarding compensation and advancement opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest and more transparent with employees about opportunities for advancement. Uphold a level of professionalism that you expect from your staff. Employees who are promoted should be compensated fairly for their commitment and willingness to go above and beyond, especially if they are willing to help out when they may already be at or close to their maximum workload capacity.

I have been working at IQ Solutions full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    (1) Very smart coworkers who are also friendly and supportive; I have worked with people from nearly every department and team in the company, and have always been impressed. (2) Stimulating projects and challenging work (in a good way). (3) Excellent benefits, including the telework option and financial support for education that enhances your career and marketability to clients.

    Cons

The workload can be considerable, especially if you work on proposals in addition to your client work. The company has recently hired someone just for business development, which is a step in the right direction. Overall, there is an attempt to help employees with work/life balance. It's just the nature of the business that proposals are very, very important and can be very, very time consuming (depending on your role in creating them). If that's not your thing, you should consider a different field.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to keep employees' work/life balance in mind. And keep the hiring standards as high as they are now; the quality of the people is what makes this company stand out, whether you work there or are a client.

Solid Opportunity for Self Starters with a Focus on Work/Life Balance

    Pros

The corporate culture has is evolving, and mostly for the better. A focus on remote work and flexible schedules makes this a good place for young married couples, parents, etc. Younger professionals straight out of their undergraduate or graduate programs will find a fairly challenging work environment. It's a great place if you're looking for client management experience. IQ has nice Wellness Program that involves a whole range of activities. Many of the exercise classes appeal to mostly women (pilates, yoga, etc.) but there are other programs that do appeal to both, such as the tennis camp, indoor soccer, softball, running club, etc. Things are structured, but not overly so, leaving room for opportunity and growth.

    Cons

It can be difficult working for Federal clients, which make up most of company's scope of work. If you're more interested in execution of public health, communications, IT, web, or graphic design work, it could be frustrating. Because the clients overemphasize academic degrees, specifically Master's or higher, the company seems to as well, making it very difficult for intelligent and fully capable professionals without those degrees to advance.

I have been working at IQ Solutions full-time

    Pros

The company does a lot of hiring/promotion from within. Benefits are good, including dental insurance, life insurance, on-site exercise classes. Forward-looking in terms of technology and encourages innovation. One of the hardest-working, most intense contracting companies with some interesting projects.

    Cons

Managers and above work on proposals without additional pay. Hours can be very long, there is a lot of stress. Some top-level management does not take prompt action with chronic problem employees, which affects morale. Do not work here unless you want to work very, very hard.

I have been working at IQ Solutions full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There are two main departments within IQ - the communications department and the technology group. While these two groups work together, they each have their own cultures. My primary experience has been with the technology group.

The technology group is great. I like the people I work with; they are fun, smart, and I learn something new all the time. I constantly get new challenges and I work to be better at my job. There have been plenty of opportunities for professional growth - I feel that there are people who can mentor me; there are opportunities to work on projects that help me learn new skills; and IQ is willing to send people to classes/seminars/trainings.

I love the data drive, research-backed approaches to solving client needs. It's great to see a company practicing what it preaches.

Management has been very receptive to ideas for improving processes, professional development opportunities, and giving me the freedom to pursue these interests.

    Cons

    - The company is what you make of it. If you're not a self-starter, you're going to have trouble rising through the ranks.
    - Generally, I think it's difficult for people entering the work force to dive into this atmosphere without some previous experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep it up! I love the support and coming to work every day. I can't say I've ever had the feeling before.

I have been working at IQ Solutions full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

IQ Solutions offers a flexible workplace with lots of telecommuting options (depending on your clients); the ability to grow in whatever career direction you would like, and great colleagues who share a commitment to making a difference in public health.

    Cons

The biggest challenge in working here are that it operates in the government consulting space. Therefore, your ability to innovate is somewhat dependent upon what clients you work with. In addition, the volume of work can sometimes be high since it's difficult to predict or plan for when proposals will be released.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers have responsibility for marketing, writing proposals, managing and mentoring teams and client work. It's a lot for one person to handle, and thinking about creative ways to restructure responsibilities could improve work life balance and overall productivity.

I have been working at IQ Solutions full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Excellent and knowledgeable peers. Great work life balance. Company encourages personal growth outside of the company i.e. Gradschool. Compensation wasn't bad. Lots of free food.

    Cons

Worked in a hostile work environment where cursing out co-workers and nepotism was the norm. Management only cared about getting the job done on budget. Relied heavily on high-performers but did little to nothing to reward them in terms of pay or promotional opportunities. Company flat out lied to its employees that they would keep their jobs on the contract and laid all but two off three months later. The two that kept there job were management's lackeys.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lack of promotion opportunities and stingy with raises. Get rid of the dead weight and use those funds to reward those who excel. Actually enforce HR policies on everyone not just lower level employees. Don't lie to workers about their job prospects respect their professionalism to complete at contract.

    Pros

Family-like atmosphere and diverse staff culture at IQ. Broad involvement with public health programs, both governmental and non-governmental. Staff watched the World Cup together and share cultural food luncheons regularly. A liberal work-from-home policy. Computerized treadmills and walking meetings provide a healthy change from standard work/meet fare. Educational advancement is important and study is reimbursed.

    Cons

It's important to think out of the box at IQ Solutions...non-traditional approaches are encouraged. Self-motivation and a thorough knowledge of one's expertise is important.
