I have been working at IRESS

    Pros

Over the last year they have made a lot of strides to turn things around. Big things are expected in the upcoming months! It is very exciting to be a member of the Iress team - Toronto Office`

    Cons

Lack of communication between departments - they are working on improving the flow of communication and cross training

Managers should appreciate all the hard work that is done

I worked at IRESS full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

free softdrink and beer on fridays, apart from that nothing really positive

    Cons

Constantly under pressure, no interaction between departments, often found out new procedures during upgrades, a culture of if you are not in development or sales then you dont matter to the company.
Plenty of overtime but who wants to work every weekend, if you didnt offer to work overtime all the time management would criticize you until you did. Often given projects that were way beyond the scope of a single person to project manage, along with the day to day role of engineer there was just too much involved for the current staff levels.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Monetary rewards are one thing but people need to feel valued in other ways also, stop looking out for yourselves and think about the people that do the actual work, if they are dissatisfied then they will not go the extra mile or take extra care when performing their role

  3.

Do not work for this company. Management does not tolerate any criticism and cultivates a culture of bullying.

I have been working at IRESS

    Pros

You can gain reasonably good experience in Financial Markets and Wealth Management industries

    Cons

Expected to work overtime without compensation
Your manager will take credit for your hard work and it will not be filtered up to senior managers
Do not operate ethically and in accordance with local labor practices
Keep your mouth shut and you may not become a victimized and/or bullied (provided you tow the line)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a hard look at what goes on at ground level and not the false impressions and lies that are reported up the line.
Replace your senior managers who appear to have high staff turn over in their respective areas.

Racism and favoritism in IRESS SA

I have been working at IRESS

    Pros

Treated well initially. Promises of growth. Promises of development.

    Cons

    All the pros were lies.

If you are not Afrikaaner then you will not get anywhere.
Preference is given if you are.
Hard work and long hours are never appreciated and never seen by management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get trained properly and treat your staff equally.
Process that you put in place is never flawless and you need to see that.

    Pros

Peers are fun to work with and very professional most of the time.

    Cons

Management is poorly trained. No idea how to manage or lead a team. Working overtime and weekends is very common and not appreciated by management. Very little to non existent opportunities to growth professionally within the company. Big gap between senior management and regular staff. IT systems are old and not maintain properly which is bad for an software company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your staff on what can be done to get the place running better.

    Pros

Many great educated people, among some few low educated ...
Great technology...depend on how to use it.

    Cons

Lots of frequent changes, small company mentality operating on cheap side, due to lack of both vision and budget and cost cuttings not necessarily in right areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not suck all the energy left in your employee, due to lack of management vision / budget to get things done cheapest way.

    Pros

life /work balance, friendly and helpful team mate. good for starters and for those who just want to have a stable paid job

    Cons

The system is too big as a monster, No one knows exactly what the system should behave like, not sure if a feature is a feature or bug. lot's of guess work.

Slow paced, messy legacy system. low start pay. too much 'management process' introduced recently.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less focus on so called management process.

I worked at IRESS full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Work at IRESS Canada is recommended to anyone who wants to get their foot in the door into the Financial Services Sector. Great exposure to cash equities environment.

    Cons

Very little room to grow. Various departments are exclusive and egotistical. Management has no direction. During my time there there was a large number of dissatisfied clients, company was moving into a downward spiral.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Company needs a huge management shuffle.
Operations and Client Services should be merged into 1 group. this will aid frustrated clients looking for faster resolution of a large cache of "issues".

Current Employee - Software Engineer in Sydney (Australia)

I have been working at IRESS full-time

    Pros

Plenty of engineering challenges. Plenty of management "challenges". The trick is to find a role where you can tackle some of the interesting engineering, be protected from the influence of senior managers, and get paid a good salary.

    Cons

IRESS is a difficult place to be a good engineer. There is little professional development, whether formal or informal, cultural or driven by leadership . The career path for engineers is short and uncertain. Management does not value engineers, treating them as low-value interchangable resources like computers. No manager appears to have a good understanding of how to run a software project.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    * Get some management training. Plenty of universities offer an MBA by correspondence or part-time.
    * Listen to your staff.
    * Change your attitude - look up "servant leadership". Your goal should be to provide high-quality software that meets your client's needs. At the moment you seem focused on extracting as much money as possible from the magical golden goose without accidentally breaking it. There's a difference.

I have been working at IRESS full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Constant hours, not too much pressure, and schedules are reasonable. The people are great. The company provides Friday drinks and free coffee, soft drink and fruit throughout the week.

    Cons

In the past the company grew too quickly and some of the software is very badly structured. They struggle with reliability while trying to expand. Some teams are very reclusive and the inter team relationships can be quite toxic. Management has recently been restructured and the company is still figuring out how to operate in the new structure. Compensation is lower than market. Talent tends to seek greener pastures.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to keep your best talent you need to recompense them according to the market, and provide them with interesting problems to solve.
