Only yes people can succeed. Cowardly management void of direction and interested only in self up reservation.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Toronto, ON (Canada)

I have been working at IRESS full-time

ProsReasonable perks and good industry exposure

ConsIvory tower for management, no direction from and poor character from within management.

Advice to Senior ManagementWelcome and listen to the voice of employees. Rip the gravy train that management is riding off the tracks and start with fresh, smart talent.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

OK company....provided you know exactly what you're getting yourself into.

Programmer (Former Employee)
Melbourne (Australia)

I worked at IRESS full-time for more than 3 years

ProsLow work load, for most it's an easy gig if you can get it.
Most of the good people have already left, so if you're any good then it's easy to stand out.
Reasonable salary.
No crunch or overtime.

ConsUpper management don't like to dirty their hands interacting directly with the ground troops.
Getting anyone outside your department to do anything for you is almost impossible.
Heavy internal politics and middle-management bullying of lower-tier staff (and in some cases outright abuse, with at least one incident turning physical).
The most infuriatingly incompetent and rude IT department you will ever meet.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing what you're doing, it's obviously working well for you.

some interesting in-house technology, good pay, good hours

Software Engineer (Current Employee)
Sydney (Australia)

I have been working at IRESS full-time for more than a year

ProsThis relates to the Sydney office. Sydney and Melbourne are different universes.

The work is mostly in Python, the best language in the world (TM). Technical leadership favours standards based HTML5 and open solutions and always will.

There is some interesting and unique in-house tech.

The company is doing reasonably well especially considering the current market in financial services. Headcount is constantly growing.

Hours are pretty sane, I work a 40 hour week.

There is free beer and a coffee machine and fresh fruit, desks are generously sized.

It might be a 700+ person company but the dev team is relatively small - there are like 50 devs worldwide working on the main Sydney product (XPLAN) and perhaps 30 in the actual Sydney office.

ConsThe products are very mature and there isn't much greenfield development being done. The most you can realistically hope for is to work on new features.

Not a lot of company culture so if you go in for all that jazz you will be disappointed.

Workstations and hosting are Windows which may not suit the unix-centric.

Iress is a good place.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at IRESS

ProsThe working environment is good, people are friendly and willing to help. There is also annual bonus based on the performance.

ConsTechnology is a bit out of dated, but it is understandable as the system is built many years ago and keep evolving based on customer's feedback.

Overall, not the place for talented technologists, but good for those just want a job to be paid for.

Software Engineer (Former Employee)
Melbourne (Australia)

I worked at IRESS

ProsLow work loads.
Average benefits.
Slow pace (If you prefer that).
Free beer/wine.

ConsSlow pace.
Old technology, legacy code and out-of-date vision.
Poor communication and knowledge sharing, people are treated as pure resource.
Some managers tend to be aggressive / show no respect to people.
