    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Revise your vacation policy for younger employees. Having 10 vacation days for your first 5 years is not competitive, particularly when everyone is looking for IT people and electrical engineers, like this company is.
-The hiring and promotion process is way too cloak and dagger. People need to have expectations clearly defined and then be rewarded with advancement opportunities when they meet or exceed those expectations. As it is, the company runs on SMEs who cant be promoted because they've not invested in development plans for junior people to move into those roles. This creates an insider-outsider environment where you're either swamped or bored.

    Pros

Stable place to work. You can keep doing the same thing over and over. Never have to stretch yourself or grow.

    Cons

No opportunities. Promotions and advancements are extremely difficult. Not allowed to do anything that you were not originally hired to do. Very secretive about strategy and goals. Need to know only - and if you are not a VP, you have no need to know. Do not expect promotion, come into the company at the level you want to be at in 5 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees below the VP level may know more than you do - especially if you would share the vision and strategy of the company.

    Pros

The benefits and great, contributing 6% 401K, ESPP 15% discount, retirement plan after 3 years 100% employer contrib., work 10 years and get healthcare for life, stock options gifts annually and sometimes multiple annual, 4 weeks vacation, 11 paid holidays, unlimited sick days, short & long term disability,

    Cons

Organization has a small company mentality and unwilling to change business processes to accommodate the big business they have become. Executives have a very punitive management style, Always looking for someone to blame rather than address the systemic issues and internal politics. Organizational structure very immature and contributes to the lack of cohesive decision making. Key Executives have left in the past 18 months and company is scrambling to fill those slots.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

rethink you management strategy. value people on all departments, not just core business. Take on a nurturing and collaborative approach to management. Get rid of those that refuse to do so.

    Pros

It is a job and the company is guaranteed to make a profit so it will never go out of business.

    Cons

Many employees are just hired to make more profit for the company. With their Attachment O contract they can put anyone in a job and get $1.25 for every dollar they cost and electric customers and our government pay for this. They would rather hire two people who don't know what they are doing rather than one who does. In fact, they don't want anyone who is wise enough to catch on to what they are doing at the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop lining your pockets with unearned money from the electric customers and the Federal Government. Do the right thing.
