Pros
Pay was higher than average. Good place to work if you were associated with aviation or aerospace.
Cons
Not a good place to work if not in the aircraft or military sectors. Not a player in industrial markets.
Pros
They were great people to talk to during the interview.
Cons
None. They are great company.
Advice to Senior Management
They are a great company to work for.
Pros
ITT is a stable company who has high revenue income and the potential to grow. In addition, they pay well for employees.
Cons
ITT is a manufature company, the entertainments service for employees can not be compared with other companies that only provide services.
Pros
Very generous in exposing me to professional life and offered exposure to a lot of different fields within engineering. The people were great and I got the impression the company generally cared about its staff.
Cons
There would be dry spells of a week or two with no work and it was almost maddening. There was some wasteful tedious work that every intern should expect to anywhere, but still sucked to get none the less.
Advice to Senior Management
The guys I worked with were generally nice guys who went out of the way to help me, but the title of engineering intern was more like secretary and was caused a lot of deep thought about whether I really wanted to be an engineer after there.
Pros
Great teamwork environment with good attitude.
Cons
A larger facility to work in.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work.
Pros
Some of the people are talented and good to work with.
If you can get on one of the few IR&D projects, the work is interesting.
Cons
The company does not spend enough on IR&D.
Doesn't seem to have a long term vision.
The defense industry is contracting.
Product line is too narrow. When a contract ends, a layoff begins.
Management doesn't follow the published values that the workers are required to follow.
I heard on a PBS show that great places to work allow employees to voice their opinion. ITT punishes employees who voice their opinion.
Want senior engineers to work unpaid overtime. They even have a document that states this.
Too many middle managers who only seem to attend meetings.
Advice to Senior Management
Spend more on IR&D. Your competition does.
The next layoff should be at least 1/2 of the middle managers.
Follow the published values.
Expand the product line.
Be more loyal to your employees.
Pros
Looks good on the resume
Cons
ITT stands for It Takes Time. You are only a number and subject to the stock holders. Great performance means nothing to Corporate. It is their way or out the door.
Advice to Senior Management
Get with it.
Pros
clean environment to work in
Cons
busy place to work year round
Advice to Senior Management
hire more people
Pros
I had best knowledge transfer possible from industry
Cons
No extra cirucular other than onlyyy work
Advice to Senior Management
Improve working environment
Pros
Nice, smart people who want to help other each succeed
Commitment to communicating, even if messages are overly "sanitized"
Welcoming corporate culture
Free breakfast and snacks throughout the day
Cons
Very hierarchical
Like stepping back in time...you are your job level, and since it's hard to move up at HQ, you get pigeonholed...if you aren't over a certain level, you are treated as insignificant by some of the corporate leaders
Advice to Senior Management
The company is full of smart, dedicated people who want to do great things. Unfortunately you have too many senior leaders who are very old school and afraid of change. To grow, you need to unleash the energy and creativity of your staff but getting all that hierarchy out of the way. If HQ isn't helping the businesses grow, then they should get out of the way
