I worked at ITT Technical Institute full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good staff, great academic team, and great experience in working with students. Minus the stress of meeting "numbers," and other measurements, it was a good job. Compensation was a lot lower compared to other schools in the area (for comparable positions), and benefits weren't that great... insurance was the most confusing and taxing of all. Considering all, it was a great opportunity to connect with good people whose paths might not have crossed under other circumstances.

    Cons

Great instructors, deans, chairs, and staff were let go of because of "numbers" not being met and circumstances out of their control (i.e. declining student attendance due to costs, personal events, etc.). Turnovers were inevitable. And leadership does matter-- surprisingly one person's decisions and regard for staff can make or break an entire school's success. There were times where morale was low, work-life balance was disregarded to meet deadlines, needs of staff and students were not met, and seeming lack of concern for burnout, and very little was done to turn it around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management seemed unaware that their corporation was based on providing educational services to students' future success-- and it's hard to do that in an environment that's driven and interpreted solely by "numbers" and profit. Student success isn't numerical, and can't be predicted solely by profit-- it takes a concerted effort to provide quality services AND *education*.

This school is so behind the 8 ball; outdated technology, unprofessional, and uncaring management.

    Pros

I worked there for almost 6 months and there were no pros to the job itself. I did really like some of my co-workers.

    Cons

schedule requires you to work until 9pm 2 days a week; work on weekends and holidays

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

hire people who give a damn about students and not just making numbers

Adjunct faculty concerns, and educational outcome of students, seem to be of little importance to corporation.

I have been working at ITT Technical Institute part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Some students are motivated to learn. Some faculty are caring and want to genuinely help improve lives of students.

    Cons

Students do not have advisers to help them make decisions about their education or help them with life issues. It is hard to enjoy teaching when you know that many of your students should be reconsidering their decision to get degree at ITT-Tech. This school is not the best fit for most students. But full time company employees are sales people, and only path students are encouraged to follow is more and more classes at ITT-Tech. Classes are $2000 per quarter, yet curriculum that instructors are pressured to follow is poorly written. Students in advanced classes typically have not mastered material in prerequisite classes, so they struggle to comprehend new material. Almost any criteria you can think of for good adjunct faculty job is not met here; cons are too many to list.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Put priority on education.

    Cons

Terrible business model, terrible management. For-profit education is a bad education.

I have been working at ITT Technical Institute as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people working at their jobs, great instructors.

    Cons

Adjuncts can only teach three classes a quarter. The reason is to keep from having to pay benefits to existing teachers. This means hiring adjuncts who are less qualified to fill the greater number of adjunct positions. Top management is only concerned about following their processes and policies so they can drive the stock price and are not concerned about how to give good customer service (i.e. help the students succeed after receiving their education)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Drop your tuition. This will allow more students to attend. Focus on giving good customer service, Help the students succeed. Allow those professors who love to teach to teach instead of making decisions based on maximizing profits.

I worked at ITT Technical Institute full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Compensation is salaried with benefits, 401k option, etc., tempting for an entry-level sales job. On the sales end, some of the employees are really nice people, that make the job bearable. Seem to do a lot to help military veterans who have related training. Plenty of structure. Great feeling of inspiring people that may have given up on themselves. Strong training program.

    Cons

Benefits are no frills. Corporate micro-manages everything. Secretly audits employees. Loans are deliberately given to people not very likely to graduate (no support system, additional financial support for day-to-day stuff). Recruiters are regularly pressured (with termination or write-ups) to meet standards that legally cannot be called quotas. The classes and facilities aren't all that nice for the cost of tuition to be so high (compared to a state or other private colleges), so selling it to someone who doesn't know the difference is the real swindle here. People come and go. Good people aren't promoted within. Office culture varies from location to location.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more in facilities and create readiness workshops for students because unhappy students are serving as a poor reflection on the organization. Inspire your sales force and foster team bonding. Build strategic partnerships with local schools and invest in the local communities.

    Pros

Interacting with the students and student support staff. The success of ITT Tech. is dependent on student success. Those at ITT Tech ensure that all efforts are made to fulfill the students expectations.

    Cons

One of the challenges that I see is some of the students do not take the education process seriously. This has to change and I find it to be an ever pressing matter.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In order for the instructors to succeed a realistic set of goals and expectations should be communicated to ALL involved parties.
