Pros
IVC is a medium sized company with a small company feel. The people are great, but the management structure is almost vertical. There is absolutely no way you can possibly feel like just a number, or just a glucose powered robot in this environment.
The people!!! The folks that make up the Indy (and most likely soon to be Brazil, IN) facility are very easy to get along with, have a beer with, and generally discuss just about anything. Since everyone is essentially peer level, his makes for high moral and a great atmosphere to work in and results in few conflicts.
Cons
The management structure is practically vertical, there is the owner, middle manager, and then the worker.
R&D (or, Remake and Dump) seemed to be far more reactive than proactive. About 70% of the time R&D was fixing problems with existing technologies rather than researching new ones. Seems to me R&D should be fixing some of those problems prior to production lots...
IVC's manufacturing processes are technologically stuck at about 1945. The plants added water from a rubber hose, marked volumes on the sides of tanks, etc. It was a difficult situation to maintain quality control when the process controls are not quantifiable with to sufficient precision levels within any type of accuracy.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve processes and methodologies to include statistically precise measurements for production lots.
