    Pros

Ice Miller was overall a good place to work. Most people were friendly and they had a very good vacation policy.

    Cons

Most non legal departments are small so there is not much opportunity for advancement. If you are not an attorney it is very hard if not impossible to move up in the organization.

    Pros

One of the best firms in the country in terms of reasonable hours and compensation. It's a very fast-paced practice so you'll grow quickly. The lawyers here are the best in Indiana, and for a few, the best in the nation for their practice area.

    Cons

Because it's so fast-paced, sometimes new people may feel like they're in a silo and have to figure things out for themselves. Self-starters would do much better than people who need hand holding.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The firm still exists (unlike some other major firms) because of its conservatism. However, if the firm wants to attract talent from outside of Indiana, then it might want to make its work atmosphere more cosmopolitan.

Despite being labeled one of the 50 Best Law Firms for Women, that only applies if you are an attorney.

    Pros

Fair pay, low stress, decent benefits.

    Cons

Ice Miller is a great place for women to work IF YOU ARE AN ATTORNEY. Other female professionals and staff have virtually no flexibility at all. Management is extremely poor at communicating, and this firm is still operating out of the 1970s.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start implementing more transparency in communications. Start treating ALL of your female employees well.

    Pros

As a secretary, I think the benefits are good. A generous discretionary lump sum is deposited in 401k every year. Salary is fairly good I think. Up to date office equipment and good support from IT department. This firm wants you to be healthy. You get free fruit twice a week. whoo hoo!

    Cons

Unequal distribution of responsibilities among support staff. But this happens everywhere in my experience. Not enough diversity in managerial positions. male to female ratio is equal, but you very rarely see a person of color in an executive or managerial position, despite the firm's efforts to recruit minorities. $100 Christmas bonus (plus a modest amount more for longevity) is the lowest I've ever had at a law firm. (But see the lump sum comment above).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a look at workloads among support staff. Stay diligent in hiring people of color.

Great people, good location, decent benefits.

    Cons

Not a lot of room for growth. Pay is not on par with the Chicago legal market.

I have been working at Ice Miller

    Pros

Ice Miller, LLP has a reputation as a very prestigious law firm in Indianapolis and is very selective inits hiring process transfering that prestige to attorneys working there.

    Cons

The firm seems to have an inflexible review process that does not adequately address the practice realities of differing groups resulting in the perception of preferential treatment of some practice area attorneys when it comes to advancement resulting in the inability of the firm to grow other practice areas because of constant attrition.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Many of the staff feel that they are treated as inferior people who are regularly adressed in inconsiderate and inappropriate manners by a few senior attorneys. Teach those attorneys some tact.
