I worked at Illinois Institute of Technology full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The best thing about working there is you are not over supervised.

    Cons

The con is there uniform regulation. even if it is gold they won't allow you to wear long sleeves unless it is mid-October.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get someone involved that knows more about public safety and police work.

    Pros

Great experience, mainly due to the possibility of getting to know students. Flexible hours.

    Cons

Lots of work, particularly with very populated courses. The supposed to be 20 hour workload is hardly ever met.

I have been working at Illinois Institute of Technology full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

location of the university to public transportation, lots of green space on campus, many events on campus, sense of energy and excitement growing

    Cons

General sense of complacency among most faculty. For a technical school, technology is rather outdated or in poor condition. Low minimum required stipend for PhD students (doesn't change or increase as you transition from student to full-time researcher) and definitely doesn't keep up with rental inflation).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Cut the red tape

I worked at Illinois Institute of Technology full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I met several very talented colleagues who ultimately became my friends and I gained experience managing up to terrible management.

    Cons

Sexism, racism, and grade-school favoritism are rampant. People are promoted based on whether they are married or not and whether they suck up to the right manager, but rarely based on their talents or skills. Those who are less threatening to management are either generally ignored or promoted beyond their capabilities. Those who are assertive are belittled and ultimately driven out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior university management will change this summer; the new administration should take this opportunity to clean house in Institutional Advancement.

    Pros

Great place to work. Comes with great benefits and great vacation time. The university cares about its employees

    Cons

The University has some issues with interdepartmental communication. Of course this will happen anywhere but for the most part there aren't too many cons

I have been working at Illinois Institute of Technology full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you're an undergrad majored in engineering, IIT is definitely a good school to consider. IIT provides a lot of opportunities for undergrads to get involved with research through the try-outs in the lab, senior research projects and academic seminars and conferences. It also give people the chance to get in touch with the industries in the early stage through company sponsored or involved R&D projects.

    Cons

Some issues may also cause concerns about this wonderful school. First is the limited budget: it may not be an uncommon issue for many universities in America in these days, but limited budget does affect largely on both research and student life from the outdated equipment to the outdated school facilities (like the gym). Second is small and outdated library: the small library in the main campus can hardly satisfy students who're in need of large amount of knowledge for researches, although the iShare system across the campuses in Chicago can make up for the disadvantage to some extent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers of the school, in my humble opinion, need to think about how to allocate the funds in the most efficient ways. For instance, it might be better to use the limited money in updating the school labs and student facilities than renewing the safety patrol cars multiple times

    Pros

The working environment is just fine. The staff are kind. The transportation access is convenient. The grass is green and the sky is blue.

    Cons

I will not suggest anyone to work here. The school locates in the ghetto, so that the people here always suffer robbery.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop trying to change the name of this institute.
