I have been working at Illinois State as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

While working for Illinois State University's Redbird Athletics Communications, it is clear to see the people in the department truly care about furthering the development of the intern's skill set and professional work experience. You will be asked to complete tasks like a regular employee would and you certainly walk away from this experience thinking you will be more than prepared for a media relations job, or a job related to the field.

    Cons

    Really don't have any.

I worked at Illinois State part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Being a research assistant was a great experience which paid for my graduate school at ISU. This job has given me a lot of opportunities that wouldn't have been available if I did not take it.

    Cons

You are assigned a random teacher to work under each semester and depending on who you are assigned, it may be very unorganized or overwhelming. The pay is not great but I think benefits outweigh this issue

I have been working at Illinois State part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Work schedule is very flexible. The professors I worked with are very professional, supportive, understanding and helpful. The benefits I get from work helped me a lot in supporting my studies at the University. Workload is very much manageable.

    Cons

Minimal professional growth. The sole purpose of the job is to support my studies financially so there is not much of an opportunity to grow professionally.

As a recent graduate of this university, I would say I enjoyed my time there.

I have been working at Illinois State

    Pros

The academic buildings on campus are close to one another and the quad is beautiful at all times of the year.

    Cons

There aren't very many career opportunities with what I studied for (psychology & speech-language pathology research).

  9.

    Great Graduate Research Assistant Experience

I worked at Illinois State part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Flexibility on when the work could be done and the opportunity to work with different faculty members.

    Cons

I did not have any negative experiences, but I will point out that as a GA (research) you have to be good at multi-tasking and stay focused in order to be successful.

    A very good experience.

I worked at Illinois State full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Was given the necessary guidance to develop both professionally and personally. Furthermore, the culture is great.

    Cons

The only con to working at Illinois State is the low pay. I don't know if I would consider this a con because the cost of living in the area is relatively inexpensive.
