I have been working at Illinois Wesleyan full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

IWU has a great faculty and staff community. This administration is generally more inclusive of staff in decision making. The administration is also very transparent, and continues to become more communicative about major decisions of changes, strategic planning, etc. Additional benefits include use of the Shirk Center (fitness),IT's services, and ample, free parking. The camaraderie is great. The tuition benefit for faculty and administrative professionals is extraordinarily generous. A tuition benefit exists for all staff though is significantly more limited.

    Cons

Staff pay is quite low. Staffing is very lean, thus most departments feel over-worked. If you are a single income family, this is not the place to work. Salary increases are currently 1% on an already low pay scale. As others have noted, opportunities for advancement are slim. While the University focuses on increasing student diversity, the cabinet consists of 10 white men, and 2 white women.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Diversify the cabinet, focus on fund-raising for staff salaries. It's not sexy, but its sorely needed.

I worked at Illinois Wesleyan part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

It's convenient to work on campus as a student. Typically there will be priorities placed on your class schedule.

    Cons

Many times coworkers will not respond to requests for taking shifts, and the blame falls on you. It's difficult to define ones job working for ORL.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create jobs that are open to students outside of work study.

I have been working at Illinois Wesleyan

    Pros

    The location is great.
    The staff is very nice.
The benefits are great as well as the time off.
Parking and the fitness center is free for faculty and staff.

    Cons

The size of the school, if you want more amenities.
The students are very needy and the culture caters to all of their wants.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be great to challenge the students to be more responsible. Some of the buildings need to be remodeled.
