    Pros

    Imagine is a nice place to work everyday.
    I had good training and was given an opportunity to expand my skill set.
    My manager and colleagues were really nice people, there is an emphasis on hiring people who fit well together, even if they are uniquely different.

    Cons

    The YE bonus situation is a horror show due to lack of communication. Everyone understands that bonuses are contingent on business considerations, but the Partners consistently choose to FAIL at communicating a thoughtful understanding of the employees bonus figures. This situation would be laughable if it weren't so damning to some of the people who depend on YE bonus to help support their families.

    Pros

    Imagine is a relaxed alternative to most companies in the finance world (casual dress, flexible hours for most teams, friendly people that genuinely want to help each other, and an approachable executive team). If you see a need in the company, the ownership is open to (and usually supportive) of giving you reigns to address it.

    Cons

    Imagine often exhibits the creativity and shorter-term focus you'd see at a startup but with the delays in execution you'd expect from a 20+ year old company.

    Pros

    You can wear shorts to work.

    Cons

    20+ year old financial software company living off of 20 year old technology. Management are all in their 60s, aloof, lazy, and clueless.
    They essentially have a few solid bank clients that they rent-seek with, and negative growth everywhere else.
    No career growth within. No education on the job.
    They threaten anyone worth a grain of salt with a non-compete lawsuit if they try to leave.
    DO NO COME HERE!

    Pros

    No dress code. Average pay. Other than that, nothing good.

    Cons

    Management is a total mess. Managers have their relatives/lovers working in the same company. They are losing business and cutting employees. At least 15 people left during last year. Basically most decent or capable people left and they are trying to lure some young talent in. Don't be deceived by them and run as far as you can!

    Advice to Management

    Time to consider retirement.

    Pros

    relaxed environment, people are generally nice. Not pushy. Work load is small.

    Cons

    senior managers controlled the company. Some people just don't work or not qualified for the work.

    Advice to Management

    Need to really understand what your employees are doing.

    Pros

    * Relaxed office environment
    * Flexible working hours
    * Very casual dress code
    * Decent pay and decent benefits
    * Open door policy
    * Good coworkers (for the most part)

    Cons

    Far too many to mention, but these are the main ones:
    * With only a few exceptions, management is absolutely clueless. Most have their positions due to longevity, not talent
    * Partners don't have the slightest idea how to run a business
    * Most executives are very untrustworthy and have no qualms about throwing their subordinates under the bus to shift blame off themselves.
    * Company is far too focused on making the software it wants to build, not what customers want to buy, yet management is consistently shocked when there is no market for new products.
    * Losing business at an alarming rate to newer, more agile, more intelligent players.
    * Partners and many managers treat clients like an annoyance

    Advice to Management

    Get a clue
    Learn how to run a business
    Try listening to your clients for change
    Get rid of entrenched managers

    Pros

    you can choose to specialize in one area of finance (specific securities) or explore many different areas. The culture is similar to a start up with no strict hierarchy or stuffiness. Nice people to work with and learn from.

    Cons

    sales people should do a better job, the product deserves more.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

    Great people, interesting culture and challenging work if you're in the right spot. (read: consulting analyst, product specialist, quant) Skills largely transferable to hedge funds and alike, if -again- you're in the right spot.

    Cons

    might feel removed from the markets sometimes, dealing with very specific and somewhat tedious projects.

    Advice to Management

    none

    Pros

    Good for starters, opportunities to practice quantitative finance/client management skills

    Cons

    salaries are static except a few client facing and quant/developer roles. Sometimes politics run the whole office

    Advice to Management

    nothing serious in addition to the above cons
