    Pros- Strong culture
    - Great intelligent people
    - A lot of responsibility

The best company to get an experience

    Research Technologist (Current Employee)
    Sarnia, ON (Canada)

ProsImperial Oil may be one of the best company to start your career if you want to work in the petroleum industry. First of all, it offers you a lot of opportunities to learn in a number of different aspects. It provides you various trainings. You feel that you are fully trusted about your knowledge by other senior employees.

ConsThere is not really challenging tasks. If you are familiar with working in fast-paced laboratory environment already, you would not find any difficulty getting tasks done in a timely manner (According to my experience). Furthermore, IT service is really slow-paced since ExxonMobil took over most part of IOL. Other than that, I cannot find any problems to work for this company

    Great summer student experience!

    Summer Student (Former Employee)
    Calgary, AB (Canada)

ProsI learned a lot from my experience as a summer student. Everyone is really supportive. If you express interest in a certain topic/department, they will make sure you get a chance to explore that interest. Great chance to network and learn about other departments. NAP program is really helpful. Work is very process-oriented, but challenging and interesting all at once.

ConsI really can't think of anything.

High Calibre of Employees - but set in their ways without taking much notice of alternative energy

    Financial Analyst (Current Employee)
    Calgary, AB (Canada)

Prosvery High Calibre of employees. The interview process was very thorough, and they are quite selective. At the same time it was quite a bureaucratic process, with them strictly following a checklist

Consnot enough focus put into alternative energy. Typical employee is the 'older, white male' but they are trying to change this demographic.

Advice to Senior Managementalternative energy focus, a company like BP is doing a much better job of this

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Imperial is an industry leader in oil and gas - upstream and downstream to improve products and ensure employee safety.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Calgary, AB (Canada)

ProsImperial provides a wide range of opportunities for a life long career that develops an individuals talents and aspirations. Being owned by ExxonMobil allows a lot of overseas assignment that can further develop one talents and travel experiences. Due to the large bubble of baby boomers the chance for earlier leadership advancement is good if the talents are demonstrated.

ConsThe company philosophy of changing to an open office cubical environment is very damaging to those that need peace and quite to be productive. Bureaucratic and processes to complete processes sometimes is over whelming.

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop better communication with the employees in the trenches.
