I have been working at Imperial Oil

    Pros

-Great opportunities for growth and career development (they want you there until retirement)
-Great safety culture- employees are empowered to take action
-Good compensation, benefits and relocation packages
-Challenged to continuously improve company processes

The company has been trying to make major changes to how it is being run in becoming more efficient, modern and open. Evident with the new branding, new campus, and technology (iPhones only!).

    Cons

-The company is very lean so longer hours are expected - though more opportunities/ responsibilities to learn
-Lack of culture - not a lot of employee engagement and networking
-Differences between upstream, downstream and corporate - upstream gets more perks than everyone else
-Employees are always moved around from city to city, position to position - great for career development but employees need to be even more involved in conversations

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Listen to what your employees have to say- allow them provide anonymous feedback
    - Make changes to performance ranking
    - Pay more attention to your interns and new grads and what feedback they have to offer
    - Invest in employee engagement

I have been working at Imperial Oil as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

The people and the processes of how they do business. Worked primarily with an Exxon-Mobil team, where they have a edge with their project management experience and process. Great Pay and benefits.

    Cons

Navigating IT issues and getting things done takes time. This is to be expected of such a large organization. Perf. rankings are a forced distribution which can be annoying.

I have been working at Imperial Oil full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Imperial Oil may be one of the best company to start your career if you want to work in the petroleum industry. First of all, it offers you a lot of opportunities to learn in a number of different aspects. It provides you various trainings. You feel that you are fully trusted about your knowledge by other senior employees.

    Cons

There is not really challenging tasks. If you are familiar with working in fast-paced laboratory environment already, you would not find any difficulty getting tasks done in a timely manner (According to my experience). Furthermore, IT service is really slow-paced since ExxonMobil took over most part of IOL. Other than that, I cannot find any problems to work for this company
