    Pros

Great company with wonderful benefits and pay. Coworkers were very friendly and helpful. A very strong focus on safety which I found impressive.

    Cons

Like many other large corporations, there's a lot of red tape and too many levels of management for anything to get implemented. A very conservative company, like most oil companies so if you're not into that then this isn't the right place for you.

I worked at Imperial Oil full-time

    Pros

Great people, great pay, easy to get time off, lots of room for progression,

    Cons

It feels like you are more of a liability than an asset in managements eyes. If oil is good life is good, if oil is bad better hope you have no blips on their radar or you will be cut.

    Advice to Management

Using fear to manage makes no one happy

    Pros

Excellent benefits, company considered employer of choice in the town where I worked

    Cons

It's the oil biz. Up today, down tomorrow. Way down today, maybe up tomorrow. Got tired of the swings and moved to a less volatile industry.

    Advice to Management

Stay the course, most employees are happy with the status quo. There is not a whole lot of options to buffer against industry swings.

    Pros

    - Stable company to work for with competitive salaries and opportunities for job rotations - Possibilities to work abroad due to the company's affiliation with ExxonMobil (They own 70% of Imperial) - Pension is good - Lots of opportunities for career and leadership development - Job rotations as a new grad and also for more senior positions (the durations are longer)

    Cons

    - In certain departments, work-life balance is non-existent. Employees work 18 hour days and weekends during peak seasons - Organization is very flat, so don't expect to climb the corporate ladder in 5 years - The affiliation with Exxon (who's head quarter is in Houston) makes it extremely bureaucratic, and the culture is very authoritative - Functional departments segregated all over the world. So if you're trying to get something done through another department or work with someone from another department, tough luck - Upper management is putting the initiative to improve work-life balance, but they don't know that more than 50% of managers are still in the mind-set of stressing how many hours you put in - They treat contractors like lower-class citizens - If you are a team lead or higher in position, you are expected to work during your vacations - Most people have to work over-time before and after their vacations to prepare for and catch up to their work, so it's like they didn't even earn their paid-vacations - Most employees work during their vacations - Ranking system is flawed; no feedback from supervisors until the day of ranking, which is supposed to determine your salary increase for the next year

    Advice to Management

Do you really know how everyone is contributing?
