I have been working at Imperial Oil full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are many challenging opportunities for new grads and young hired. Excellent pay and very good benefits. Learned a vast amount to this point

    Cons

The company runs lean. By that I mean they have a large workload relative to the amount of people on site. This tends to result in certain work being completed which should be. Also tends to hinder work/life balance at times

    Pros

Good for growth, nice bunch of people

    Cons

Horrible policies - If you're an international student in Canada and about to graduate, please don't bother applying here. They are not aware of any policies regarding post graduate work permit and stuff. You will get rejected straight away..

I worked at Imperial Oil full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Incredible amount of responsibility right from day 1 - Great resources to help you progress through projects (specialists, literature etc) - Very good pay and benefits - Opportunity to grow

    Cons

    - Red tape - useless things take way too long - Bland working environment - lack of culture and excitement - Being a "good employee" is mainly correlated to how many hours you put in

    Advice to Management

    - Work on creating a more forward thinking company with more focus on appreciation of employees.

    Pros

-Great training opportunities throughout Canada and the US -Good communication between employee and functional manager -People are always willing to help out -Bright future for the upstream groups -Benefits are second to none

    Cons

-Not the greatest paying company -No retention bonus for remote workers

    Advice to Management

-You may want to look at some sort of bonus to retain the young talent at the remote site areas such as Kearl. With other oil sand developments on the rise and or already operating, these young folks will start to jump ship at their first opportunity. KEEP THEM!

I have been working at Imperial Oil full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Imperial provides a wide range of opportunities for a life long career that develops an individuals talents and aspirations. Being owned by ExxonMobil allows a lot of overseas assignment that can further develop one talents and travel experiences. Due to the large bubble of baby boomers the chance for earlier leadership advancement is good if the talents are demonstrated.

    Cons

The company philosophy of changing to an open office cubical environment is very damaging to those that need peace and quite to be productive. Bureaucratic and processes to complete processes sometimes is over whelming.

    Advice to Management

Develop better communication with the employees in the trenches.

    Pros

High quality employees. Always busy. Pay is good but its not free.

    Cons

Politics are smothering and overwhelming at times. No seriously, the politics are out of control on all levels of this company. A lot of employees do not have hobbies because they don't have time away from work. They become fanatics and obsess over small things.

    Advice to Management

Give someone the power to make a decision, something good might happen.
