Current Employee – been working at Improving Enterprises full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – We have the best people!
Culture of transparency and fun.
Management leads by example -- there is an open door policy pretty much any time you want to have a conversation.
Focus on employees -- monthly social events & opportunity to learn from each other. Mentoring programs. Yearly retreat.
Cons – Growing pains...everyone is really busy; sometimes communication is a little slow.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep the small company feel as we continue to grow.

Pros – Great people, very talented --- cream of the crop without being prima dona's. Love to work with these people, grow with these people, and hang out with these people.
Good vision for the company, and good progress on getting there.
Cons – Not really a con, but a nature of the business --- being a consultant, we're most often a clients sites; this means it's harder to really stay "plugged in" to the company. It takes a real personal effort to stay in touch, and the company provides several mechanisms to help.

Pros – Exceptional culture that puts it's people first (several ways this manifests itself)
Guiding principles - share time and knowledge freely, go beyond, get involved
Each employee shares in the success of the company through profit share and other programs
Management is very open about happenings and company financials
Cons – There are so many activities and programs to be involved in that you have to watch your time so you don't over commit.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep it up!

Current Employee – been working at Improving Enterprises full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Open/agile/collaborative environment in technical projects and business activities. Strong financials. Consultants get a chance to work with new technologies and try out new ideas. Lots of personal growth opportunities through on-the-job learning, speaking, and teaching. Bonuses for referring friends and business associates.
Cons – Sometimes feels like there's not enough structure or management direction. The company may be too flat and lean.
Advice to Senior Management – Provide a little more guidance and orientation or training.

Current Employee – been working at Improving Enterprises full-time for less than a year
Pros – I feel like Improving's management team truly wants to see me succeed and grow professionally as well as personally. They go out of their way to provide opportunities for my development. I have never felt like a number or faceless employee, but instead an important part of a team culture. Improving hosts regular events for employee social bonding, such as monthly happy hours, family outings to the water park, and going to comedy shows. The overall atmosphere is open and laid-back, but you can tell Improving has a strong belief in honest quality work.
Cons – I would prefer healthier snack and drink options in the fully stocked kitchen. I do love the beer keg though!
Advice to Senior Management – To maintain the company culture even though the company continues to grow. It is one of your greatest strength's so keep up the good work!

Current Employee – been working at Improving Enterprises full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Management Team obviously care about well being of all employees
Salary/Good Workplace balance is very good at the company (many could make a little more money, but not often at a company that also has a high commitment to its employees)
Good jobs and shared ownership in the company (more than 50 employee owners <- I think)
Many Personal development opportunities and support, but much of it on your own time.
Annual Company Retreat!!!! Cant explain it until you experience it
Regular town hall meetings
Cons – Some consulting assignments are 20 miles+ from the company
Although town hall meetings are conducted several times a year, would like one at least once per quarter.
Advice to Senior Management – Continue your efforts in making this a great place to work.
Dedicate more effort/time to the ImprovingU program

Cons – Would like to more growth in business.
Advice to Senior Management – None

Current Employee – been working at Improving Enterprises full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – The people are simply the cream of the crop. Smart, friendly, ambitious, caring, and driven. The work is bleeding-edge and opportunities abound if you want to work on fun/cool things.
Cons – Compensation is less than industry standard. The maximum for a Principal Consultant is $120K. The kind of talent Improving has is worth much more. Lots of driving!
Advice to Senior Management – The perception of management is that they do not have the employees' future in mind and that they only care about making more and more money by putting more and more bodies in seats. The organization is very flat (but getting better). Management could do better by developing career plans for each full-time employee.

Current Employee – been working at Improving Enterprises
Pros – Improving is a laid-back atmosphere. Low pressure, nice people, that focus on technology. They host a huge number of user groups every month, which is a great way to stay plugged-in. Members in Dallas meet every 3rd Thursday to stay in touch, play ping-pong, Kinetix and drink beer from the 2 Keggirators they have in the office. Overall a fairly fun place to work.
Cons – Improving is primarily a staffing firm, so sometimes it feels a bit frustrating to see the world as just one more technology person. It'd be nice to have a mind-set of being consultative in nature, and able to show-off some thought-leadership in particular areas, and not just be good at general technology.
Advice to Senior Management – You have a strong Agile sense about the company, only there seems to remain some dogma about how to go about it. I've always thought of agile as something you are, and not something you do. It's a personal thing, a mental thing. Improving has a different tack on that, and I wonder if maybe it would be better to focus on adaptation, rather than following some set of rules. Might provide even more innovation and creativity than you already experience.

Pros – Smart people, excellent management, fun workplace. Great benefits. It's no surprise that this company continues to get selected as the best place to work in Dallas and Texas.
Cons – As a consultant, I may be assigned to a client that isn't close to the office, making it difficult to stop by the office regularly.
