I have been working at In-N-Out Burger

    Pros

I've been working for the company for 4 years. I've had quite a few positive experiences, made quite a few long lasting friendships and have learned a lot of life lessons in my time with the company, positive life lessons, such as having patience, learning to work as a team, great work ethic and being able to have an extremely flexible work schedule. If your manager is aware of hours that you can or cannot work, they will accommodate your schedule if you are a part time associate.

    Cons

I probably have too many cons to list and would probably out muself if I listed them all here. I've worked at 5 different stores. The dynamic at each store is completely different. Managers are all different and you're faced with learning many different personalites. The biggest issues are 1) gossip and high school drama with the girls (sometimes guys can be worse 2) favoritism with associates. That's a big one. If you read most of the reviews on here, most every single "con" mentions favoritism, maybe the company needs to crack down on that. If you're a "favorite" you could be a level 1 and move up to a level 6 within months. It's actually quite amusing to watch. 3) Theft. People actually streal things from one another's lockers. It's insane. From money to cell phones to clothing, if you leave your locker unlicked people think it is theirs. 4) Certain people getting write-ups for being late and others can be laye daily. Which kind of ties into favoritism. The write-ups are suppose to be a learning tool and not suppose to discourage you are make you feel bad, but they do. 5) And the last one is one we all can't really prevent which is the dreaded grouchy customer. It happens daily. It's part of our uniform to deal with these customers, but it would be nice to not always say "the customer is always right".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train management on fairness and favoritism. Train management how to deal with drama and high school games, especially when dealing with managers. Have the RM's, DM's and even the customer service reps come work in the stores a few weeks a year so they can see what it's like as a day in the life as an in n out associate. The cameras you have in the office, have them so you can have actual volume to them so you can hear things so there are no discrepancies when an associate and a manager have a disagreement. The manager doesn't always tell the truth. Integeity is important.

I have been working at In-N-Out Burger

    Pros

Pay scale is equal to or exceeds pay in comparable jobs in each industry. Great benefits and family-oriented company.

    Cons

Can be difficult to get promoted in certain departments. Most promotions revolve around store productivity. Hard work and some sacrifice of personal time gets you promoted faster through the "ranks" .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Support managers should be more willing to show appreciation for jobs well done. Tend to reward with food parties rather than bonuses or gift cards, not just with words. Senior management seems more appreciative than middle manages and supervisors.

    Pros

Great pay for the type of work.
    Fun atmosphere.
The good managers are really good.
    Very flexible on schedule
    Store crew becomes a family

    Cons

Physically demanding work. Constantly on your feet. I have a herniated disc in my spine from hunching over a grill for years
Breaks are too short to recover from intensely fast paced work environment.
Becoming a strictly top down management approach

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop worrying about little things. Stop encouraging new managers to be picky about tiny non-issues
