    Pros

Great supportive work environment. You are given a lot freedom to be creative with client's activities. Very supportive of work life balance. Opportunities for advancement.

    Cons

Pay is less than it should be considering the type of work. Some tension because of a seniority system that is in place for time off. Communication between levels is okay

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

You build relationships with the consumers and your coworkers

    Cons

Pay never goes up. Managers treat you like crap and their superiors back them up no matter what. I worked there for 6 years and was immediately fired after one simple mistake. Someone by the name of HD will do whatever it takes to make a name for herself. The bigger her title the bigger her head.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your staff better or u will lose them. Treat all staff the same. Remember we are humans not machines

I worked at Independent Group Home Living full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The staff are wonderful to each other, managers and HR try to help you. The consumers are well taken care of they are always happy and there are never any problems with them. The consumers were my favorite part of working at IGHL.

    Cons

The managers and HR are not always so helpful. They try they really do but like most non-profits, they don't have the resources to work with you. The salaries have not gone up since 2008.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees, give out raises on salaries and don't pick favorites!
