I have been working at Indianapolis Zoo full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Excellent pto - given 40 hours quarterly. At 5 year mark gain an extra 40 hours making it 50 hours per quarter. Most staff are friendly and passionate about their jobs.

    Cons

New management of my department has proven to be remarkably bad - purely reactionary, no deductive reasoning skills, micro-managing, lacks the ability to delegate and trust.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within when you have more-than capable employees. Departments should work together instead of against each other.

    I worked at Indianapolis Zoo

    Pros

I liked that I was able to work outdoors, when the weather was nice. I also got to see animals.

    Cons

    Extreme sexism and some racism.

Lack of communication between bosses and their employees.

Obvious favoritism in departments and people.

My boss requested I pick up a dirty diaper that was thrown in bushes while he sat laughing at me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be aware of the way you treat your employees. They are people.

I worked at Indianapolis Zoo as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

I was an intern there and everyone was so welcoming and eager to make sure that I learned as much as I could. You get great benefits like discounts all over the park and free admission to the Zoo. It's a great zoo and there are always new things happening. The employees really love they're work.

    Cons

Low pay (I was unpaid as an intern). As with all customer driven companies, there were frustrations with some situations.
