Infosys Software Engineer:   (Past Employee - 2007)

Pros

Best place to be as a fresher... best campus... best training in the whole IT sector.
Very good wrok - life balance in cities where travel takes less time... Music club / Adventure club / Employee club.... gym / swimming / steam bath :)... very very fulfilling life for interested people.

Cons

Not many during my stay (Thankfully) except for my immediate TL... she would want me to work... pretended to work all day .. and then since I spent less time in completing the work at hand, take all the credit for her as well as my work! Also, my PL would find jobs requiring immediate attention only at 5:30PM in the evening which made me mad!
Now however, things have changed.... worst being the timings... 9.5 hrs compulsory... and the certifications that have been made compulsary....
One more bad this is: favouratism... I wanst unhappy with this as for people from EC, impressions are generally good on the higher management as they are visible... but its not the case with everyone...
Things were much better during NRN's time.

Advice to Senior Management

Improve on the salary structure please.... and for Gods sake... stop micromanaging people... timings!!!!

Infosys Senior Software Engineer in Hyderabad (India):   (Current Employee)

Pros

good technical growth is possible within infy. However all depends on the team and the manager. For some team people are working satisfied while other teams are suffering.

Cons

low salary, rat race for onsite as this is the only option to see the face of money. sometimes half of your day is under pressure.

Advice to Senior Management

clarity in the process. less personal preference but more weightage to professional skills. salary should be at per the market rate.

Infosys Senior Systems Engineer:   (Past Employee - 2009)

Pros

Its a good learning curve for new college graduates. I think the environment is so accepting of people who would normally never be given an opportunity to work in IT a chance ( I am only referring to the US hiring program, and I know the Indian hiring process is a lot more demanding) . Now, to say thats a great thing for the client to have a lot of inexperience onsite people.. meh, whatever, it gave me a good job to learn a lot of job skills for the first 2 years. However, if you planning to focus on something that will interest you in that area.. time to move on.

Cons

I felt really isolated in the company; that was my biggest complaint. I think the big reason was the nature of my project and being an american hire. So, instead of feeling part of something bigger, my world was my cube and I didn't even see other infosys people most of the time! Maybe once in awhile when my manger tells me to take irrelevant certifications, turn in my time sheet and join a weekly team call to hear other infosys talk about thier work that was completely not related to mine.

Advice to Senior Management

I have none because I think they are just as constrain by the structure of the organization as I. SO mostly good luck with trying your best.

Infosys Project Manager in Atlanta, GA:   (Current Employee)

Pros

1. Good Campus
2. Good brand image
3. Good media management...even if company gives a 2% hike it makes it to the news.

Cons

At the time i joined there were 7000 employees and It was a good place to work for. Over last 10 years, infosys has gone from bad to worse and in the recent recession it became unbearable.
Some of the worst things noticed here are:
1. Bad politics...if you don't have a Godfather, be ready to be screwed. Without a Godfather, there is no recognition of talent anymore when company is >100000 employees
2. Some of the worst policies in the industry. Whats with forcing people to clock 9.15 hrs when they are on bench.
3. Cost cutting to ridiculous extents. Company relocates you to different places in US and then finance dept doesn't want to pay you for lease breakage and other stuff under some pretext or other.
4. Worst Salaries compared to the market
5. No growth for individuals.
6. An environment that instills constant fear in the minds of people specially at US in the name of operation independence and what not.

There are so many other bad things that i can write but am ending the review here because i am feeling shameful of myself of having been a part of this organization for 10 painful years and still not able to find a job in the current US market.
Please pray for me so that i can move on from this organization asap.

Infosys Software Engineer in Pune (India):   (Current Employee)

Pros

Infosys does not provide any reason to continue working for them.
The work culture is similar to just ano other Indian IT company and compensation packages are also similar.

Cons

Appraisal processes are not fair and competent people are not given a fair chance for growth.
Mediocre and work shirkers sail in the same boat as the Intelligent and hardworking do.
Project Management is not result oriented and hence rework and schedule slippages are common.

Advice to Senior Management

Instead of focusiing on Variable Pay cut think of something more innovative aimed at cutting costs.
Invest in you Human Resources and provide them opportunity for growth alongwith your business.

Infosys Senior Software Engineer:   (Current Employee)

Pros

There are many excellent opportunities available in terms of variety of projects and client interaction.

Cons

It's very difficult to get on a project unless you have networked with senior staff which is pretty much impossible at a junior level.

Promotions are rarely issued, the company prefers to hire employees from other organisations to fill these roles meaning there is no incentive for existing employees to give 110%.

The appraisal cycle does not reward achivement but rather focusses on number of years in the company and how much your manager likes you - if you don't work with your manager (which is common) then you have no chance of promotion.

The training at Infosys is non-existant. You are forced to do mandatory exams every year - failure of which will result in no promotion. No training is provided to pass these exams, you have to rely on your ability to read through a powerpoint presentation and remember what was in it. These exams do not represent skill but your ability to remember word for word paragraphs in presentations.

Advice to Senior Management

Revise the appraisal cycle, you need to motivate your employees and not expect them to dedicate their lives to Infosys without reward or recognition. Infosys has a short sighted approach to their employees and it is forcing good people to resign so they can find better opportunities. As a result, the poor performers are staying in Infosys and are being promoted purely for spending years in the company. If you want the company to develop and build a good reputation for quality you need to remove the poor performers and reward the high achievers.

It is very good for a fresher as his learning curve would be very good and he can get a good exposure.

Cons

For an experienced professional, he would have to showcase lots of talents as there are a huge number of people to compete with.

Infosys Software Engineer in Chennai (India):   (Current Employee)

Pros

One reason that most infy employees will agree with me is here, is its brand name. Which I think has started to fade in the recent days. It's a company of good ethics and values. The infrastructure and the effort taken for the maintenance is really amazing.

Cons

There's a good ambience to sit and work here, but not to grow. While ET and other major financial experts report infy's growth in revenue quarter by quarter, sal hikes and promotions dont reflect that. Very poor in employee care when compared to similar employees. The people working in out of the city development centers will strongly approve my opinion on this, the travel costs and appalling penalties being the reason. It has turned out to be, a normal, yet another IT company with its own politics and dissatsified employees whose number is recently increasing. Recommended only for laterals that too only for managerial roles.

Advice to Senior Management

Please try to get feedback from employees in the first and mid level and please take the employee feedback surveys serious.
