Cons
Stresses of young employees working for you.
Pros
Good Part Time Health Benefits.
Cons
Poor Management, Zero Accountability for Actions, and Zero Chance for Advancement, and Raises are not Given when Promised or Earned.
Advice to Senior Management
Take responsibility.
Pros
Quick promotion oppurtunites, decent pay, many locations so always close to home even if had to work at another store.
Cons
Higher management was not fair to everyone
Some people were treated better than others
Rules only applied to some
Advice to Senior Management
treat everyone the same , apply rules to everyone even themselves
Pros
-Great front end co-workers (cashiers, baggers)
-Very flexible with hours/granting days off requested
-Learned a lot about getting great savings on groceries
Cons
-Too many employees promoted and not receiving pay raise for 3+ months. (bookkeeper, full time, night stock)
-All the "professionalism" of the management is fake
-My store manager would not promote me after working 3 yrs because he couldn't "promote within"
-High stress level doing books and on top of that the managers disappear and you're left running the front.
-Getting a raise was like pulling teeth.
Advice to Senior Management
I genuinely love the people I worked with.. as people. NOT coworkers. All it took at Ingles Markets, was for a new employee to be there long enough to realize they could do what ever they want and there was NO discipline for their actions. The most pleasant part about a day working at Ingles was getting to clock out and go home.
Pros
Very flexible hours. Reliable job. Nearly impossible to be fired. An complete idiot can move up into management.
Cons
Low pay. In store promotion's are rare. High stress. HR nonexistent. Company's leadership filled with Mr.Ingles family and friends.
Advice to Senior Management
No advice, only sympathy for them being stuck with such a company for the rest of their lives.
Pros
It was the only store in town.
Cons
The management was inattentive to its employee's needs.
Pros
Only store in town. No competition.
Cons
Poor management, low wages, unhappy employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Select store managers that take pride in their work and not just being a puppet for the next level management.
Pros
I enjoy the people I work with (most of the time)
My manager is fair and VERY knowledgable about the business
I have advanced very quickly int he 4 years I have been there
Cons
My position at another grocery chain would make twice what I make.
Corporate seems to have NO idea how things work in stores every day
I just REALLY dislike our corporate employees, they feel that if you call and ask them a question, you are inconveniencing them. But they have NO problems sending out emails telling US what to do, or what we did wrong, when most likely, it was their screw up.
Advice to Senior Management
I went from a Service clerk to Customer Service manager in 3 years.. Service clerk, to Cashier, to bookeeper then to Customer Service manager.
Pros
-clean environment
-good hours
-decent pay
- this is a good place to work if you are in high school. they worked well around my school schedule.
Cons
the biggest thing about working in a grocery store would be the unfriendly customers. they can be quite mean sometimes, and you have to be nice to them.
Advice to Senior Management
If you are hiring high schoolers, make sure all of them are getting an equal number of hours if they want it.
Pros
Great opportunity to engage with the public
For the most part, the days are not typically boring.
Cons
Limited encouragement from management
Most of the upper level management are very rude towards store employees
Advice to Senior Management
When a customer compliments an employee, share that thought with them. If the customer took the time out of their day to inform you of this, then you should at least recognize the employee for their extra effort.
