    A company that does not care about its employee, bottom line first

    ProsNot much, set schedule if you're lucky enough to work in the right department. If you love politics this is a pro of working at Ingram Micro

    ConsRestructure every couple of years, meaning layoff every couple of years. Just went through another round of layoff even though they just had a record breaking profit year

    -Politics, it's not what you know but more who you're buddy buddy with..

    -Lackluster environment, office environment still stuck in 1980s, morale is at all time low due to layoff and incompetent middle management

    -After 4-5 years you would think their SAP transition would be completed by now but still can't get it right after spending hundreds of millions on the project. Way to re-coup that money, more cost cutting around the globe

    -Low wages for the worker bees but overpay on Director and VP level. Tier bonus structure means worker bees get half of what managers will get.

    Advice to Senior ManagementAt least to pretend to care about your employee and layoff or cost cutting when times are tough, to do it in record profit year is simply a slap in the face and openly telling your employees you don't give a crap..

    Fantastic group of talented workers, Awful executive leadership.

    ProsBy and large, the people I work with are a fantastic and immensely talented group of people. There is a wealth of talent working here.

    ConsThe executive leadership is bringing this company into a death spiral. Their idea of cutting costs by $100M is to look strictly at the bottom line and cut the tenured employees, leaving a massive knowledge and talent gap. Communication within the company is non-existent. It's sad that the department that is set to oversee corporate communications has to learn of the company's announcements secondhand from various employees. The company is too focused on increasing its stock price by mergers and acquisitions instead on focusing to fix their internal shortcomings.

    Advice to Senior ManagementWith plans to backfill U.S.-based positions in the southeast Asia region (read: The Philippines and India); the company will soon realize that a million button-pushers at a million keyboards will not write Shakespeare for the company. You're creating an environment of fear within your employees which cannot be sustained. We're the world's largest technology distributor. Why is it so hard for us to successfully leverage technology internally?

    Starter job, but beware the surprise layoffs

    Pros-Good starter job if you're fresh out of
    -Learn a lot here, very quickly, like most people say
    -Other companies do acknowledge them being on your resume, and like that you're familiar with a large corporate environment
    -If you're in the right department, you'll meet some great people, who you'll stay friends with even after leaving
    -If you ever get a return on something you sold, at least know that everything they tell you is a scare tactic. A $30 billion company isn't suffering because someone returned a $2 cable. Which they will try to tell you costs the company $80k somehow.

    Cons-First and foremost. This company's Buffalo office is a CALL CENTER. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Depending on the department you're in, this could be anything from a 5 call/day minimum, to your boss yelling at you for going to the bathroom, after being strapped to your chair for another 50 call day.
    -Company likes to conduct layoffs, which they're extremely good at hiding from the rest of the company, and obviously from the public (and DOL)
    -On the above, you'll notice an awful lot of things hinting they aren't doing as well as they'd like you to think. The place can't even install HEPA filters; there are huge black marks around all the air vents.
    -Phones are Avaya antiques from 1980. Spend a little on technology please. Vendors come in and laugh at the place.
    -If you don't drink, stay away. The place reeks of booze on Monday mornings. And Tuesday, and Wednesday...
    -Some departments are badly understaffed, between layoffs, and people leaving. I worked in one that couldn't pay people enough to stay. Literally.
    -If you're intelligent, and a smart worker, you may butt heads with a lot of the 'order monkeys' who work here. Be ready for a lot of frustration.
    -If you're a realist, and don't like meetings where people spend hours throwing around buzz words ("pillars" was a big one when I left), stay far away. You'll spend more time reading up on buzz words than actually doing work.
    -Some departments will give you a ridiculous amount of red tape. There are a few terrific bosses here, but a lot more who are solely interested in teaching you "how you should work at a job" and "things you do that you shouldn't do anymore."
    -If you are the rare breed of person who is assertive (not aggressive), and will argue a point in a fair manner, don't bother. Be ready to be taken to "the room" to be scolded by someone who was in your exact spot 2 years prior. Trying to explain your reasoning results in more yelling and punishment.
    -...and God forbid you ever get an item returned that you sold. You'll come home in tears.

    Advice to Senior ManagementPaul Bay (President), please whisper quieter when you scoff at your employees' appearance after passing them. It's too obvious.

    Very cost conscious company

    ConsWatch your back. Employees are eliminated on a regular basis.

    Generally good people, but could be a lot more efficient. Reactive, not proactive culture.

    ProsGenerally good people to work with. Good cafeteria.

    ConsToo many departments and countries/regions function as silos. Results in fiefdoms and a lack of shared best practices and communications. As a result, there is often initiatives that often overlap or conflict with one another and eventually lead to either conflict of Ingram looking like to outsiders that the right hand does not know what the left is doing. This is especially true about coordination of policies, operating procedures, customer and vendor management between the various global regions because performance metrics are based upon regional performance rather than what is best for the entire company. Also, decision making processes take way too long not only because of the silo structure, but because regional presidents/VP's often too often ignore, obstruct, delay or veto policies, practices, etc., that they do not like. This is usually because either the policy will not benefit their group of region or themselves, personally. If it benefits another region over their region, then either forget about getting a positive decision, or plan on either a long fight/campaign at the highest levels (if you can get that level of C-level executive support), or plan on finding a way to split the profits (in other words, cut your regions profits to get the other region to go along, otherwise, a deal or project will never see the light of day).

    Advice to Senior ManagementSee cons listed above. Review and modify performance metrics at all levels so that decision are both streamlined and do not punish a region if they accept a policy change that benefits the company as a whole, but not their group or region. That has to include coordinating operations across regions and taking away the complete veto power of regional presidents who act more like a affiliates than an actual part of the company.

    Executive leadership has their priorities out of whack

    ProsThe company has a history of hiring quality employees.

    ConsHiring quality executives? not so much. Executives are too interested in their own salary. Company is going through an 'insourcing' phase. In theory this is great, however the company is more interested in spending money on acquisitions than hiring more employees to support integration or even day-to-day operations. This causes existing employees to be overworked and putting out fires instead of actually planning for the future. Recently took over 8 months to find a new CIO after the 'catty' executive leadership currently in place forced the former CIO out.

    Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees. Spend money where it's desperately needed before you buy more companies.
