I have been working at Ingram Micro as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

They have a nice facility in Harrisburg. They have employee appreciation days.(you get 2 hot dogs). People are nice to work with.

    Cons

They will work you 60 hours a week. For two or three weeks straight. They come up to you 15 minutes before the end of your shift and make you stay two to four hours overtime. They say"no more than sixty hours in six days' but they don't always follow it. Lot's of non English speaking people, so at times it is difficult to get everyone on the" same page" . I have not heard a positive comment come from any employee about the company. They need to put in a revolving door with as many people they go through.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Apple cannot be your only client. You are working your people to many hours. You need to hire more people that will work not just eat up the time clock.

I worked at Ingram Micro full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent work life balance, great place to learn the IT industry. Good facilities, lots of opportunity to move around.

    Cons

Focus on raising margins through pricing. Constant margin pressure and cost controls creates employee uncertainty. Mid management is weak and have too many direct reports to get coaching Director/VP level is like a club that you have to be a buddy with someone to get ahead..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be a leader and look for ways to raise pricing. recent culture changes favor younger employees, look for ways to not have this shift alienate veteran core employees.

I worked at Ingram Micro full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great environment for younger folks to learn different positions, corporate processes and culture (both good and bad). Don't work in IT or operations - total burn out. Great opportunity to learn and be exposed to market leading vendors. Most good folks leave to join manufacturer partners.

    Cons

Unfortunately longer term success and career path has more to do with political relationships and/or being a "yes" person than it does with anything else. There are lots of good people there but if you're not in the club, you're out. Lots of talk about "culture" and "the people" but unfortunately it's just that - talk.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The stock price is higher than it's been in years thanks to layoffs and acquisitions. Keep it up. However, I hope for all the good people there that you don't break the organization by ignoring the core issues. Best wishes.

I have been working at Ingram Micro full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Dynamic environment fulfilled with challenges and accomplishments. It's a great company to be part of.

    Cons

Low margins lead to constant focus and priority on cost reduction which lead to some negative surprises with last minute "course corrections".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

IS Top management must be stable and focused on long term achievements to avoid constant CIO switches and consequent reorganizations in the middle of important milestones achievements.

Great people, office culture, environment of mutual respect, compensation and benefits

    Cons

Frequent changes at upper management and executive levels breaks confidence in the state of the company

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Such frequent management changes are not a good thing - try some stability, listen to your employees when new management comes in!
