I worked at Ingram Micro (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The co-workers are nice and stick together to make it a decent environement

    Cons

The majority of Middle Mgt in Marketing and Vendor Mgt are incompetent and if they have been their 10+ years, they are all cronies .They determine who they like and who will get promoted. Performance does not matter. Its popularity and if they do not like you they will find a way to get rid of you. If you question them or a policy they will find a way to write you up. Everyone knows it so morale is very morale, everyone is afraid to speak up or ask a question. Meetings are silent. The staff knows the old cronies don't really know anything or want to change anything. New ideas are not welcomed and innovation is non-existent . Middle Mgt consider themselves the untouchable "leadership" group and make the decisions, they seek no input from staff and don't care what you have to say. They have created a culture of fear and hopelessness. You will learn nothing to help your career, their is no advancement unless you start at the bottom. It is a complete waste of time.

    Advice to Management

So you open a new office to help collaboration but the real problem is your middle mgt of old cronies. They are an incompetent group who are stuck in the past and too fat and lazy to improve anything. They know very little about technology or marketing and they do not want new ideas from the staff. So until they are gone, nothing will improve. Bring in fresh middle management who have some new ideas and energy. Your middle management adds no value to the staff they manage or the company.

I have been working at Ingram Micro full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits compatible to the market, location (Orange County) is a big plus, company values its community and always engages on volunteer activities.

    Cons

In IS there is no work-life balance, top management keeps changing constantly and it leads to different directions all the time, constant layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Better communicate long term planning and stop switching IS top management every year.

I have been working at Ingram Micro full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A lot of benefit options to chose from but can be costly. The people you work with It's a paycheck

    Cons

Current Executive Management doesn't care about employees Yearly Layoffs No promotions IT Department The systems Current Executives don not care about loyalty. Not paperless Outsourcing to Manila has problems and it's left to current associates to fix problems. Executive don't care at what expense it affect employees they just want it done.

    Advice to Management

You can present a pretty package in with the new Irvine office but it's the same problems inside. Figure out how to make the company great again and stop creating this false presentation. Value your employees more or you will have more quitting-actually really doesn't matter management will probable be happy so they can hire some at lower salary.

I have been working at Ingram Micro full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Clearly defined goals at a corporate level so everyone is driving towards the same initiatives.

    Cons

Lower pay than peers, zero stability, rampant favoritism, diminished work life balance.

    Advice to Management

Moving to this fancy new office sure is feeling like a punishment. Annual merit raises have been deferred and the layoffs have hit everyone hard. We're all doing more work for less pay, and now you try to act like this new office is a BENEFIT?! Guess what, good employees don't want a game room. We want to be able to work remotely 1-2 days a week like we used to be. That is a major benefit that cost you nothing in return. Get ready for the mass departure after August 17. You don't pay people enough to live close to your fancy new Irvine office - that's why 50% of my group lives in Riverside, has a 2 hour commute, and is already looking for a new job. People will stay with you long term if remote work options are brought back. You can't pay 10-20% less than industry average and expect people to work 20% more.

I have been working at Ingram Micro full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Most associates are dedicated to the business and pleasant to work with. Decent work / life balance and compensation is fair for position.

    Cons

Training for new associates is almost non-existent and you must be willing to lean on your teammates to learn the business - especially if you are coming from another industry.

    Advice to Management

Create a positive working atmosphere for your team and manage them appropriately. Don't assume all single contributor associates can and will work effectively and independently. The new collaborative office in Irvine should create a more positive working atmosphere for all.

I worked at Ingram Micro full-time

    Pros

Interesting and friendly people to work with.

    Cons

Disorganized. Constant micro management by superiors. Resources from parent company are not shared with new division. Low salary. Incredibly high amount of office politics. "Teamwork" between different BU's is difficult. Most of the superiors are new to their roles and thus have no idea what they are doing.

    Advice to Management

Change the way you act around the office. We get it, you think you are important...

I worked at Ingram Micro full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are decent. Gain valuable insights into the IT world. Hard work prepares you for the future.

    Cons

I've been in the business for 15 years and never encountered such a corrupt goup of people and environment. "It's the people "is the most hypocritical slogan out there. It's about who you know and how much you're willing to brown nose to get "accepted". There are those that can get away with pretending to work while others work like donkeys and still get beat up. Don't be too talented or the "group management team" will quickly find a way to get you from your cube to HR; end result? Fired or laid-off. Vendors also get the short end of the stick. Are frequently asked to invest ridiculous amounts of money into "programs" that no one ever sees through and that don't produce true ROI. Politics here are dirtier than Washington.

    Advice to Management

No advice. President has heavy influence into how some departments are run. Too egotistical to make any changes of value. Once the company begins to nose-dive even further, there might be a chance for a wake-up call to executives.
