I worked at Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Lots of friendly people. Very PR job with lots of people around you. Depending on the department you are working at you may get to dress down (i.e. not a requirement for formal attire everyday)

    Cons

Mundane, office job with lots of paper work. After all, you are dealing with tax issues. Therefore everything that you do becomes really repetitive after a while.

Benefits are good but not the work, bosses, hierarchy..

I have been working at Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Family-oriented
Work-life balance (depend on the dept you are in and what kind of boss are you under)
Slightly above average compensation scheme (salary and bonus)
Other benefits such as gym, child care center in the building etc.

    Cons

    A lot of paper work.
It's quite troublesome to get approval from management for projects, time is wasted to keep making changes, doing lots of research (which in the end dunno will get to use it a not) for the project when each of the bosses on top have different views. It's quite frustrating doing project here. But oh, having project can be counted as a KPI for your performance review. Oh, the irony.
A lot of redundant things going on and it is compulsory for staff to contribute.
Stressful and intolerant on mistakes due to public impression and the nature that it's tax related.
Work load distribution is not very fair
The things learnt here are not really useful for future career progression.

I have been working at Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

I worked with IRAS for 8 years. Comfortable environment. Family oriented environment. Some are great colleagues to work with but some are not with worst attitude. Overall, still management to deal with these people. You need to firm and speak up for yourself. Excellent benefits and welfares. Great place for recreation activities. Healthy life style.

    Cons

Workloads extremely ridicious. Poor career development for support staff and stagnant. I had seen some of my colleagues who had been working for 20 years and doing the same job with no promotion. Some departments are quite politics. Management can be bias and favouritism.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should take into consideration the career development for support staff.

I worked at Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore

    Pros

IRAS provides good work life balance, reasonable pay package, great colleagues. work load is very manageable and not challenging

    Cons

limited opportunities for changing career paths, management seems to value people participating more in their 'cca' rather than those who are good on their core work

I worked at Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Promotion is already predetermined based on your qualifications, and the "potential" the management sees in you when you first joined the co. Family oriented workplace, not much competition compared to private sectors.

    Cons

Some people just work more than others. Office always looks empty. Workstations are fully occupied, but you hardly see some people reporting to work. Hard to innovate/improve because middle management are rather resistant to change and doesn't want the extra workload. Given a false impression by HR that after contract term will be converted to perm, but contract gets renewed for years and it never happens. But there are department that hires perm direct. Count on luck.
