Response to "Love this job" etc by remote reviewer

Remote Coding Review Consultant (Current Employee)

I have been working at Inovalon full-time

ProsImprovements in some work processes

ConsImprovements in processes exceedingly slow due to several factors, some of which include outdated apps/equipment, having to justify literally every minute in spite of working on required issues beyond reviewing records; incompetence still exists in middle and upper management. In response to the statement re: salary - that depends on your geographical location and expectations of what you feel is your worth as a professional nurse with related experience both clinical and administrative. Which explains why a large, if not a majority percentage of reviewers reside in southern states where salaries are not competitive and never have been. Residents of those states tend to have no basis of comparison if they are only familiar with what the pay scale in their region, but does not speak nor relate to national levels in other states/areas. Those of us who have worked elsewhere recognize what constitutes competitive pay with recognition of professional standards and knowledge. A statement referencing a great salary does not speak for many who beg to differ.

Advice to Senior ManagementFine-tune accountability of middle and upper management; cannot understand why some people still remain in Lead and other upper-level positions. Take into account a remote reviewer's track record and an overall "total picture" when that associate needs time to work on required projects such as completion of goals. Having to justify every little detail is stressful and demeaning. Give us some slack if we are meeting or exceeding productivity and accuracy and ask for some additional time to do admin work such as organizing info and updates - not seeking to goof off but to actually allow us to work more efficiently as the end-product. In order to keep up with day to day volumes of info while email crawls and documents take forever to open or load, we end up doing things outside of work hrs when this should not be the case. Caught between a rock and a hard place if one desires to stay abreast and remain employed.

Field Reviewer for HEDIS Project

Field Review Specialist (Former Employee)
Las Vegas, NV

I worked at Inovalon part-time for less than a year

ProsEasy work, good orientation and training, reimbursed for mileage, ability to work independently. Interesting work, not the same everyday, ability to increase your learning. Nice people at site visited.

Consinconsistent work, lots of last minute changes to your schedule with no notice, poor communication.
A lot of driving, Not reimbursed for supplies as promised. No feedback on your work that you have done.

Advice to Senior ManagementRC's should consult with local staff to help schedule reviews to prevent from crisscrossing across the city everyday. Should have a lead in the office to answer calls after 200pm pacific coast time, during the week

Don't bother, you'll get laid off in a year.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Bowie, MD

I have been working at Inovalon full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThey offer a friendly work environment and, if you're smart, you can get a high compensation package.

ConsFor the last three years there have been massive layoffs. You will be over-paid once you get a job but don't expect to keep it long. They laid off 200+ people three weeks ago with out warning once they lost two major clients due to mismanagement. It didn't matter about seniority or experience or even productivity so watch out!

Advice to Senior ManagementSort out your clients and finances and stop over promising things to people.

RUN RUN RUN AWAY!!!!!!!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Bowie, MD

I have been working at Inovalon full-time for more than a year

ProsIF you connect with the right manager you can advance quickly and be protected when you produce mediocre work and are inefficient as well as ineffective.

ConsSoooo many to mention......Many employees are ... (1) not concerned about quality but getting something done. (2)....advanced too early to management. (3)...more concerned about advancing their careers by exposing some issue that that is trival and making it a huge deal.

The company itself has no loyalty to it's employees to constantly lay-off and rehire. Moral is low after the recent layoffs in May 2013 because the company lost a major contract and reduced staff by almost 10% yet had a stellar year and made way over budget in 2012. Salaries are below the average for the DC Metro area.

Overall benefits are horrible (little PTO - 15 days only including sick/vacation time).

Advice to Senior Management(1)Look at your low level managers and see if they truly add value not just provide lip service. (2) Build in quality and provide better customer service to clients. (3) Focus on quality and production. (4) Remove managers (at all levels - senior managers, directors and VPs) who consistently display negative attitudes and do not work well with their teams.

Less than optimal

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Inovalon full-time

ProsGood job if you want to work from home. I have worked there for two years.

ConsThe first year there was a massive layoff. As of today, May 17th 2012, there was another massive layoff. The layoffs were done without regard to experience, productivity or accuracy. Inovalon does not have a stable work environment.

Advice to Senior ManagementExceptionally top heavy management, inadequate training and excessive shifting of employees from project to project.

Too many slow employees

Senior Manager (Current Employee)

I have been working at Inovalon full-time for less than a year

ProsELTs. Their ideas & enthuisam

ConsToo many Directors with just the title but doing cut & paste job. Slow old directors who are more of a bottleneck rather than accomplishing anything.

Advice to Senior ManagementImplement Process Improvement or performance improvement within the company.
Do some real strategy work rather than tactics. Be efficient

Great while single, not so much when you start having a family

Software Development Engineer (Current Employee)

I have been working at Inovalon full-time

Pros- Great coworkers. Training in Engineering encourages employees to learn and teach and expand their knowledge. and Inovalon does invest in their engineering team.
- Pay is decent. Bonus pool depends on company performance ( as it should be). This year the company has been very generous with the bonuses and raises.
- This company has done a lot to improve the overall processes to make Inovalon a better place to work. It's not the best place, but its definitely not the worst.

Cons- No Maternity leave and medical insurance for a family is way too high. Great when you are single and paying for yourself but don't expect to support your SO. They have FMLA and they pay for STD which covers only 60% of your pay and only 6 weeks. So basically if you are a woman, try making it back to work the day after delivery. Taking FMLA effects everything from senority, retirement to benefits and medical insurance. a month of Paid maternity leave may help attract more talent. Since let's face it we are having a hard time filling in positions with quality people.
- Invest in your business team as much as the Engineering.

Advice to Senior Management- Experienced people will have families. And some of them will be great workers. Making Inovalon attractive to them helps a lot in employee retention.
- Slacken the dress code for engineering. A lot of productive software engineering companies have relaxed dress code.

Love the company and job, improvements still needed.

Remote Coding Review Consultant (Current Employee)

I have been working at Inovalon full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat company - Now provides great benefits for all employees (in-house and remote).
Great salary - There is no way I could make this kind of money in a hospital setting without working nights and weekends.
Trying to improve - Rebranding was not just a change of name, a transition of the company is happening and improvements are being made.
Most of the leads are wonderful.
Many positions can be home-based.

ConsThere is not much open communication regarding advancement within the company. How is it that you become a lead? Do you have to be recommended?
Laptops for remotes - They are dinosaurs. Please upgrade. Soon.
Some leads severely lack, not only in knowledge but many need to check their attitude towards reviewers. I know of some who talk down instead of talking to the people on their team.

Advice to Senior ManagementProductivity will improve significantly improve if you would invest in new laptops.
Turnover will improve if you more adequately offer opportunities for advancement and make the process clear.
