I have been working at Inphi full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay and benefits OK. Potential stock appreciation. Free snacks and soda. Lunch provided once per week. Office staff friendly and helpful.

    Cons

Understaffed. Work here only if a) you have no life outside of work and b) you enjoy working evenings and weekends.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Add staff, or there will be lots of employee turnover and more slipped schedules. Don't jam on the staff you have, they will burnout.

I worked at Inphi full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There is no good reason to work at Inphi

    Cons

Terrible work environment. Chinese culture of work. The company is constantly looking for new hires because it cannot retain the talents. Chaotic management. My manager was a micromanager who routinely calls one on one with action requests and delays. The list of actions and dates were generally setup before the call. The manager would say that I am behind schedule and that I am not meeting expectation. If you join this company, expect a pseudo "performance review" every month. The purpose is to pressure you. There is no work/life balance. It is very similar to Chinese culture work. Although my manager was not Chinese but Spanish.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Unfortunately the issues at inphi are not fixable.

I worked at Inphi full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There is a good selection of free snacks and drinks most of the time and free lunches are provided either once or twice per week - I think it was twice, although that might have been reduced in order to save cost. Either way they did provide food pellets for their employees who were treated almost exactly like rats.

    Cons

This company is really nothing more than a managerial pyramid scheme. Engineers are seen as pawns to be used to help fabricate their manager's fictitious relevance. All commitments are scheduled completely by the marketing executives with no pushback at all from engineering managers. Any input from actual engineers is neither sought nor desired. Engineers are forced to work the longest possible hours and as many weekends as possible - with no concern about employee's personal lives AT ALL - in a completely misguided view that the way to solve the problems created by the unrealistic project schedules is to work the antiquated engineering procedures longer. Any attempt to update the procedures gets gridlocked due to a combination of the short-sighted views of the managers and the completely unworkable project schedules. It's always the same thing - "We don't have time to try the correct way of designing this so let's go ahead and do what we've ALWAYS done here ... we'll fix it in the next version." Of course when the next version comes, it's more of the same. As long as the manager can brag about forcing his team to work more hours than should realistically be needed he (the manager) is seen as a superstar by his superiors. I'm actually surprised that engineers aren't asked to punch timecards at Inphi - it would make it easier for managers to brag to each other.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's only a matter of time that continuing forward with way outdated engineering procedures is going to catch up with this company. Management needs to develop a longer-term view and realize that time needs to be scheduled to allow for modernizing engineering implementations. Burning out engineers by forcing them to complete projects with the current inefficient techniques is not the way to keep good employees.

    Inexperienced technical managers.

I have been working at Inphi

    Pros

Lots of fruits, soda, juices, and snacks. So many conference rooms and visitors offices. Friendly technical and office managing staffs.

    Cons

People with no or little experience are running the show and making technical decisions! Lots of noise and blaming other teams, parties or departments for incompetency. Delusion of big success and climbing the hierarchical ladder. Not a place to build your career. Soon you'll find a reason to leave. Young engineers are here only to build a portfolio and then join a better company.
No methodology to root cause product failure issues and carrying those problems to next generation.
The pay here does not reflect the high cost of living in Bay Area.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow up. Micromanagement doesn't work. Take responsibility.

I have been working at Inphi full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Close to home. reasonably good pay.

    Cons

Keeping up with the management. Marketing seems to drive the engineering schedule and that is not a good thing. You can't realistically commit to a tape-out 6 months in advance when you know that you will run into problems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Push the customer more. Don't commit to unrealistic schedules. You know that you don't have enough horsepower to do the job, so don't over commit. Some customers aren't worth it.

I worked at Inphi full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good stock appreciation. Good benefits including ESPP. Growing business. Nice office and working place. Lots or perks: drinks, free lunches.

    Cons

Not an enjoyable place to work. The management is based on pressure and stress. The manager is pushing all the time. Extreme micro management. Manager requests reporting in real time. Not efficient vision of future. Long boring meetings that sometimes last more than 2 hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change the slogan of the company from "Think fast" to something else. Forge a new company culture. Make a motto for the company clients rather than for the employees.
