Former Employee - Customer Service Representative in Louisville, KY

I worked at Insight Communications full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You get free cable, internet, and phone services. It was easy to schedule time off, and easy to get overtime.

    Cons

Mandatory sales pitch- this became more important to management than the customer service and troubleshooting aspects of taking calls.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shouldn't have CSRs to try to sell a product to a customer whose current services are not working. If you can resolve their issue over the phone, you might have a shot at getting a sale. If the issue requires a work order, most customers are annoyed, they are not likely to consider purchasing another service. It sends the message that you care more about making money than satisfying your customers, which might be true, but it doesn't make the customer happy.

    Pros

The team was hungry to learn and open to new ideas and process's

    Cons

There were few opportunity's for career advancement and job expectations were unreasonable considering the tool's, training and manpower

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Cons

when i say pay was ok i mean it the pay tiers were too high for the type saturation you were getting 100 houses on a street you might be able to knock on 2 if your lucky the other 98 had the service already or had an old bill and couldn't get the service

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Former Employee - HSI Tier II Technical Support in Louisville, KY
Former Employee - HSI Tier II Technical Support in Louisville, KY

I worked at Insight Communications full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Entry Level IT/Tech Support. Free cable, internet and phone for being an employee. Great way to enhance your troubleshooting skills and soft customers skills. Decent pay as a beginner Help Desk Support job.

    Cons

Literally had to share desks. First come first serve of open desks. Sales. You have to try and sell a product with every call or you can get written up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn your employee's job duties and see through their eyes what they deal with on a daily basis. Try and see yourself in a person's shoes where they are getting cussed and yelled at and then graded on the call to make sure the support technician tried to make a sale. Pull sales out of technical support.
