Pros
benefits are very good at insight
Cons
salary is horrible. really horrible
Advice to Senior Management
communicate better with employees or lose the good ones
Pros
Insight is a good place to work. Flexible about work and life balance. Has great access to any and all types of IT equipment.
Cons
Management seems to be fighting internally for control and so that leaves a lot of the field to deal with the various political battles and changes in direction.
Advice to Senior Management
Have one strategy; have one focus; and invest more on the services side to complete portfolio for sales force and clients.
Pros
Some good people, great opportunities if you are Mormon, I know a lot of reps that make great money, but you have to be able to survive 3-5 years of very little pay and volitile sales until you can build your book.
Cons
Terrible middle management, endless useless campaigns, metrics based on how many clients you called about the topic of the week, slow order entry terrible CRM system, true call center no freedom to visit clients and build relationships, I have witnessed Insight pull major accounts from seasoned reps for "Market Purity"
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees. You claim to make attempts of this but nothing is never done.. Part of listening is TAKING ACTION. Ken is making some good changes but they have a loooooooooong way to go
Pros
Have broad portfolio of I.T. products to sell, can seek out some talented engineers and support staff. Flexibility in pricing, simple proposal processes.
Cons
You must be at the headquarters location in Tempe, AZ to be connected and in the know. Company has a call center sales mentality, little interest in problem solving or strategic relationship building. A good place for new sales reps to learn telephone sales basics. High level of internal deal making for territories and accounts, preferred treatment for those well liked.
Advice to Senior Management
Ken is doing a great job of re organizing the company into a single, cohesive unit. Lots of work to be done. Needs to continue to bring in new mid level management, and teach strategic, solution skills.
Pros
Insight is good where it is very large and easy to learn new things. Management is a little bit flexible when you need personal issues as well. Not a bad place for a JOB.
Cons
There is such a lack of discipline from sales reps who do not care very much. There are a lot of people as well who seem to be on "cruise control" as well where they don't make the extra effort. A lot of people are more concerned about covering their own *ss. There doesn't seem to be very much unity and being in one of the larger offices that's not HQ, it seems like there is no "love" in the different offices unless you are in HQ.
Advice to Senior Management
Have management who are more competent and respond better. There are some managers who aren't even in the office who are barely working. By having more accountability and encouragement from the managers, I feel like employees would be more happy. Have managers work with team mates more to self promote and move forward and promote their careers instead of having that feeling of being stuck with no where to go.
Pros
Unlimted earnings potential with tremendous backup and assistance. Truly believe that Family and Children are an important part of your success.
Cons
Pressured to succeed, tend to refer to people as a homogenous group rather than as individuals.
Advice to Senior Management
There should be more emphasis on relating to people as individuals rather than as a homogenous group. Each individual has their strengths and weaknesses.
Pros
Decent pay, Good benefits, Flexible shift
Cons
No performance review or raise in the year I was an employee
Pros
There are literally no positive aspects in working for this company short of just having a job to make your bills.
Cons
Terrible benefits package, 401k match is low, health care insurance costs to employee very are high. This company is just plain evil, managements compensation is based on screwing over low level employees and on their ability to send jobs to outsourcing 'partners'.
Advice to Senior Management
Insight started as a call center operation to sell hard drives on a low margin. That same cheap call center mentality still drives managements attitude and incentives. The best thing management could do is jump into an icy cold lake and take a deep breath.
Pros
Nice people, Limited ego centrism.
Cons
Cafeteria is marginal, and in need of an update.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work.
Pros
Insight is a very large company with a lot of different departments. It is a great place to start a career, move around and try different roles provided that you have networked properly and interview well. The compensation is not as high as some other companies, but the opportunity is there if you're willing to go after it.
Cons
The same corporate politics that can help you land a job, and also get you walked out the door. You have to make sure that your boss, who is frequently a "good 'ol boy," likes you, or you may find yourself being disciplined or investigated in an effort to be rid of you. Not as high paying as other VAR's.
Advice to Senior Management
Find a CEO and president that will stay around for a while. Ideally ones that don't just identify operational issues, but do something about it.
