    Pros

Wellness and work life balance is decent for what that is worth. The company could learn from other technology firms and establish better communication to employees. It is a sales driven organization that only rewards sales and marketing departments year round.

    Cons

Management, lack of vision across all departments and providing "insight" from top of ladder to bottom of ladder. Lack of communication to employees is seen from day one on he job.

    Advice to Management

Hire some visionaries and technologists who are able to deliver, sell and manage technology. Think of an army of Gates, Bezos and Jobs "types" who know what they are selling and how to deliver those products to customers.

    Pros

If you just got out of technical school, community college, or the military; this is the place to work. Low hiring standards makes it easy to get a job that is in your field. The people were a lot of fun, the NOC could be an animal house, mean spirited comments and insults hurled, but its all in good fun.

    Cons

Low pay. Low pay, Low pay, Low pay. This issue was repeatedly brought to management, and routinely ignored. There was a Sr. Manager brought in to try to turn around the client base leaving. He reportedly asked for more pay and was shut down. Techs were always asked to be patient and the money would come, it never did. Director level and up did not care about what happened in the NOC, so long as the money flowed. Managers from other groups would come in and tell techs what to do. Rank-and-File Supervisors and Manager were more or less powerless. Blame-game was the paradigm of the day. Everything was someone else's fault and staff was trained on that from day one. Health insurance went from bad to worse when Insight stopped picking up the premium on their high-deductible plan. 401k match was about average, but not what you might expect from a Fortune 500 company. Time off was difficult to schedule as the shift had to be covered by somebody, some supervisors refused to do that work, would instead make the requester find a back-fill.

    Advice to Management

Start over. Abolish the RNOC. Find out what the other MSPs and Telcos are paying, then make your own pay structure based on that. Calence was bought and rebranded, but the culture was never changed. Points based attendance systems that applied nowhere but the NOC, help desk guys (that were rejected by the NOC) that started higher than the NOC guys. Rebrand and consider what you want to be, an IT sweatshop that manufactures tickets, or a solutions based partner of your clients.

    Pros

Great atmosphere. Fun, focused, and very team oriented. Weekly meetings with the entire company. And the GM has an open door policy. I was able to speak with him about good ideas that I had for the company.

    Cons

    Micro management, clique management system

    Advice to Management

Open to flexible system may help the company grow faster

I worked at Insight full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Paid training period. Gregarious and friendly sales staff.

    Cons

Excessive micro-management. Limited opportunities for growth and advancement. Rampant favouritism.

    Advice to Management

A strategy of growth via acquisition leads to a constant focus on internal politics. Client experience and employee satisfaction suffers.

    Pros

As with any place you will find a number of motivated and caring individuals at Insight.

    Cons

No amount of motivation or individual effort will overcome incapable leadership. Individuals in leadership positions have no strategic plan for the future. The standard plan is to scramble to react to bad situations that continually repeat themselves and wonder why the same thing keeps happening. An even worse and common scenario is where leadership does not see that there is anything wrong with the current state of the union. Benefits are far below what competing companies can provide. 401k matching is practically non-existent.

    Advice to Management

Start over with new leadership across the board

    Pros

Its expanding so there will be more jobs

    Cons

Very cheap. Health insurance was downgraded to barely there, 401k match downgraded, and our annual free company sweatshirt is now downgraded to a tee shirt you have to pay for

    Advice to Management

Stop being so cheap - your best employees will leave

I worked at Insight (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Insight does not seem to care too much about their employees' educational backgrounds. You will meet many people working in mid level jobs with no degree. This is a pro if you are lacking in credentials--at Insight you can get valuable experience without the gate keeper of a Bachelor's degree.

    Cons

If you have much experience in your industry, it won't be valued much at Insight. They have their own way of doing things and they don't care what outside experience you have learned from and want to share. If you want to be successful at Insight, don't be too ambitious and don't try to change anything or raise any flags, it will not be appreciated. Just keep your head down and do your work.

    Advice to Management

You have a gold mine of really smart, very experienced people (even if many of them are lacking in educational credentials). None of them are really being used to their full potential. The best thing Insight can do to advance its business is offer the customer base consulting services to support the products Insight sells and installs, and use the very experienced employees to do that consulting work.

I have been working at Insight full-time

    Pros

Nice clean comfortable environment. I have a good manager that has our backs. Extensive training on products and services. Partners are available on-site to help with products and pricing.

    Cons

The comp plan is terrible, they make it very difficult to make any measurable commission.

    Advice to Management

Raise the bar on who you hire for your sales force and pay them!
