I worked at Insitu as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

Excellent place to intern. Immersive environment with great coworkers. Management is very loose. So long as you get your work done, people don't bother you and you have a flexible schedule. You are expected to see a project through from start to finish. No passing off work to others. Great place to gain experience in a truly systems level environment.

    Cons

Working and navigating the configuration management process can seem quite tedious at times. Work sometimes comes in waves of feast/famine depending on contracts and funding.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I feel that many employees have skill sets which are underutilized.

I worked at Insitu full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Used to be a great company to work for when it was smaller. Benefits and pay were great. Now....nope.

    Cons

Terribly managed. As a person who went overseas to make the company money (FSR), you're not really accepted by the rest of the company, unless of course you drive a subaru, hug every tree you see, and kite surf.
Pay was being decreased continually. Double standards and favoritism is huge in this company.

I worked at Insitu full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

It's in the Columbia River Gorge, which is one of the most beautiful places in the US.
    Unmanned aircraft are really cool.
    The people are really great.

    Cons

No longer a startup-- not the same feeling as it was in the beginning.

  6.

    I worked at Insitu

    Pros

Exciting product and service offering. Lots of job openings, but must be considered short-term due to high turnover rate and high use of significant consultant or contract labor.

    Cons

Toxic work environment, distrustful and functionally siloed. Following documented processes is rare and individuals raising concerns results in "investigations" that will smear, tarnish, or destroy your career path.

Tell the customer whatever they want to hear, then execute any way that suits current staffing desires - knowing someone else will take the blame and be held accountable when the deception is revealed downstream.

Massive rotation and "revolving door" for leadership positions with obvious retaliatory practices. 3rd CEO, 4th CFO, and numerous other leadership dismissals and rotations in past six years.

There continues to be no leadership desire to encourage cross-functional teaming and partnering for improvement since Boeing's acquisition in 2008. Voicing concerns will result in your termination.

Massive employee and management turnovers. HR is primitive and unyielding to reasonable dialogue and compensation, which is obviously in their best interest as it justifies their existence.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look elsewhere and visit the Columbia Gorge (a.k.a., "Gouge") as a tourist versus resident.

I worked at Insitu as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Gained good engineering experience. Tasks were varied and I drove the direction of my work. Hours flexible. Really great people working there - many co-workers go climbing, hiking, or mountain biking together.

Intern housing is provided at a low cost and intern activities are scheduled. The intern program is just a really great program.

    Cons

There is little room for new hires, so this is not an ideal place to intern with plans of future employment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great job making interns feel like Insitu is a place to grow.

I have been working at Insitu full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Management is working hard to fix the Cons I have listed below and has made marked progress over the last year.
Management is loose - both a pro and a con. On the pro side, if you self-manage well and are politically savvy Insitu is your oyster (at least until Boeing takes it over).
    Pay and benefits are good.

    Cons

The culture is ultra-political, cliquish, and mercenary with a disproportionate number of jerks.
Turn over is high with people quitting and management quick to fire.
Work environment can feel chaotic and directionless (the con of loose management).

I have been working at Insitu full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

great training provided with ample opprotunities to grow in the Company. the benefits are stellar.

    Cons

There is somewhat still a garage mentality.
This is a small Co that went large quickly and even the Company learning to use the MRP, ERP system correctly has and is a challenge. This means to thrive here you must have great patience because the growing period so far from getting out of the garage mentality is slow moving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Attention needs to be given to what percentage of all employee's time is spent in repetious meetings. Need stronger personal performance goals that have relavance to the employees day to day duties instead of presenting overall Company goals as personal performance goals. Maybe use software or the SMART tech that is used to set and define personal performance goals. Insitu personal goals are not motivating or exciting to an individual.
