A great place to work. Plenty of diversity.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Sydney (Australia)

ProsGreat leaders who get the best out of people, a focus on getting the culture right.

ConsNot much movement at the top so advancement opportunities are rare, and often filled by sideways moves by people whose skills are sometimes not appropriate for them

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Middle Management Great, Senior Management Useless

    Senior Analyst (Former Employee)

    ProsMiddle Management are very supportive

ConsSenior Management give no feedback as to direction, or if they do it is just lip service. A bit of an old boys club at the top.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of the old boys club, staff morale is low.

Software development with legacy from 80s with Agile flavor

    Software Developer (Former Employee)
    Auckland (New Zealand)

Pros- good chance to grow into leadership positions if you like politics
    - you have a lot of spare time that you can use for personal development

Cons- legacy code written by less qualified programmers
    - insurance business in NZ grows by acquisition, there are 100s of insurance related software products that require support and integration
    - everything moves very slow, you may get used to that and it will numb your brain
    - SCRUM is used as an excuse to keep too many developers busy with something

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Very positive, great people. Not a lot of opportunity for non-managers

    Senior Analyst/Programmer (Current Employee)
    Sydney (Australia)

ProsCollegiate culture, good remuneration & benefits, very secure. Excellent work-life balance, very family friendly.

ConsOnly career path is into people management, not much technical leadership. Frequent restructures. One-way communication. You need to have a good relationship with your direct manager, and also that manager needs to be very effective when it comes to negotiation with their superiors.

Advice to Senior ManagementBuild first before restructure.

Not a bad place to work

    Claim Advisor (Current Employee)
    Christchurch (New Zealand)

ProsFriendly staff and Management. Adequate training and opportunities to further skills. Team Playing environment, and corporate wardrobe.

ConsInflexibility with changing hours to a more suitable time. It was a good experience, but work-life balance could have been better

    Great place to work

    Programmer (Current Employee)
    Sydney (Australia)

ProsLots of different opportunities in technology

ConsIt's a big company and I suppose IT is still seen as a cost centre by a lot of older folks in the company. In reality, if it wasn't for IT, there wouldn't be a company.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvolve your technologists in more decisions, don't dictate to them.

Solid, trying to be better, but un-inspiring leaders in an un-glamourous industry

    Senior Manager (Former Employee)
    Sydney (Australia)

ProsThere is genuine desire to 'be better' rather than just accepting status-quo. Quite a large number of initiatives (for the business and for the staff) that could help, if completed. Large numbers of pleasant, friendly, professional staff.

ConsGenerally un-inspiring individuals in leadership positions. Many of the initiatives (see 'pros') fall by the wayside or become lip-service. Insurance is never going to be a glamourous industry.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhat you *say* you're going to do is good; now do it !

    Heading in a positive direction

    Business Partner (Current Employee)
    Sydney (Australia)

ProsI work with some smart, driven yet down to earth people. IAG genuinely cares about their employees and balances business and people strategy well. There's a clear focus on customer, community and delivering great products. Further, leadership is working hard to develop a culture that the organisation needs for sustained success.

ConsThere could be better greater focus on innovation - As insurance is fast becoming a commodity, how IAG separates itself form it's competitors while everyone else compete on price and no frills offerings is key.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinued focus on creating a culture of accountability and innovation

    – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
