I have been working at Insurance Australia Group

    Pros

Good people, community / sustainability agenda, supportive of employees, good compensation and flexible work practices. The Company offers opportunities for career growth.

    Cons

Tough time for insurance, poor financial results in 2008. Company is current in a significant period of change and is shifting to a decentralised model. Once this is completed, I expect we will move to a very positive outlook. QBE has been stalking the Group, so there is a possibility of a takeover in the next 12 to 18 months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on getting the key things right and restoring the Group to solid profitability.

I have been working at Insurance Australia Group as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

relaxed environment, good work/life balance, you can go home on time most of the time, most people here are nice, although you know there are difficult people everywhere, supportive for further education.

    Cons

some team might not be very effective, so you have to wait for a long time for them to response although you've chased them again and again. Some managers are paying more attention on their family rather than the work here.

I worked at Insurance Australia Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great leaders who get the best out of people, a focus on getting the culture right.

    Cons

Not much movement at the top so advancement opportunities are rare, and often filled by sideways moves by people whose skills are sometimes not appropriate for them

    Recommends

I have been working at Insurance Australia Group full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Collegiate culture, good remuneration & benefits, very secure. Excellent work-life balance, very family friendly.

    Cons

Only career path is into people management, not much technical leadership. Frequent restructures. One-way communication. You need to have a good relationship with your direct manager, and also that manager needs to be very effective when it comes to negotiation with their superiors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Build first before restructure.

    Pros

Friendly staff and Management. Adequate training and opportunities to further skills. Team Playing environment, and corporate wardrobe.

    Cons

Inflexibility with changing hours to a more suitable time. It was a good experience, but work-life balance could have been better

I have been working at Insurance Australia Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Lots of different opportunities in technology

    Cons

It's a big company and I suppose IT is still seen as a cost centre by a lot of older folks in the company. In reality, if it wasn't for IT, there wouldn't be a company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Involve your technologists in more decisions, don't dictate to them.

I have been working at Insurance Australia Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I work with some smart, driven yet down to earth people. IAG genuinely cares about their employees and balances business and people strategy well. There's a clear focus on customer, community and delivering great products. Further, leadership is working hard to develop a culture that the organisation needs for sustained success.

    Cons

There could be better greater focus on innovation - As insurance is fast becoming a commodity, how IAG separates itself form it's competitors while everyone else compete on price and no frills offerings is key.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continued focus on creating a culture of accountability and innovation

    Positive Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
