Costs $640+ per month just to get to work!!!!! Oh yea, DONT GET SICK!

    Analyst (Current Employee)
    Jersey City, NJ

ProsProfessional environment. Hey, it's a job!

ConsNot allowing telecommuting is a huge CON! Almost everything I do is via computer so coming in 5 days a week is absolutely not necessary. I don't mind coming in, but between gas, tolls, parking, and wear-and-tear on my vehicle, just getting to work takes up almost half of my take home pay. In addition, they give 17 paid time off (PTO) days per year (THIS INCLUDES SICK DAYS). If you get sick once you can forget about going on vacation. That is just not a realistic amount of time to be sick, see doctors for regular check-up visit and also have personal and vacation time. What about if your children are sick? It's extremely NON-competitive in that sense. I have less days off per year than anyone I know. It makes balancing work and life very difficult and is bad for mental well-being. In addition, the salary is NOT very competitive, the trend is to come to ISO, gain experience, and then go to another company and make twice as much. It that sense, they should offer more incentives to stay.

Advice to Senior ManagementWith gas prices, tolls, parking being sky high and the economy hurting, wouldn't it only make sense to offer at least part time telecommuting?? The sick time is a total joke!

Prosgood benefits (flex-time, tuition reimbursement, etc.), good understanding of work life balance. offer various learning seminars for knowledge sharing effrots.

Conslow salary compared to the industry in general, favoritism in promotions and raises (teacher pet type mentality), senior management archaic and stagnates evolving the business.

Advice to Senior Managementfairness in promotions and not only based on favoritism. stepping more into the information age to utilize web 2.0 applications.

    Honest Opinion

    IT Engineer (Current Employee)
    Jersey City, NJ

ProsThe people at ISO are all genuinely decent people. This includes management on a personal level. Compensation is fair to me. Sorry to everyone complaining about salary, but my philosophy on compensation is : if you cannot do a job for your current compensation level you will probably find a reason for not being able to do the same job for ten times that amount.

ConsThe IT management team at ISO is regrettably the worst i have seen in my many years in IT. i have worked in many shops in my career. the indifference of IT management towards its employees, the politics and favoritism and labeling of employees by management goes beyond explanation and stains an otherwise decent place to work.

    Manager (Former Employee)

ProsGood company to learn and gain technical knowledge. Strong revenue primarily on monoply of ceratin types of data.

ConsSenior managment not capable of creating realistic goals due to dictatorship like decisions. Unable to innovate and deliver new technologies to keep up with changing demand

Wonder, how many of the Senior Management have seen these reviews?

    (Current Employee)
    Jersey City, NJ

Pros-When you are on vacation, YOU ARE ON VACATION. No emails, calls, etc.
-Flex time is great if you have to come or leave, but this depends on your manager. Some are really meticulous when you come in and when you leave.

Cons-No growth. Different scenarios depending on what department you are in. But overall, lots of people who worked in the company for 25-30 years, and they are NOT leaving.
    - Be prepared to feel like you are in 1980s. Most technologies are ancient due to a legacy of the company that is a monopoly in some products and services, so those areas did not see the need to change in decades. This legacy interferes with growth in those old areas, as well as hinders new acquired companies.
-No outside perspective from senior management - for the reason mentioned above.
    - Politics, politics, politics... and silos that again hinder organic growth and distribution of competitive intelligence and insight.
-Very bad compensation structure - they may pay you what you want in the beginning, but no bonuses or raises beyond an inflation point here.

Advice to Senior ManagementAs a public company Senior Management - should have a better business strategy for organic growth. Betetr compensation of your new employees with fresh perspective. Break down silos and create a common purpose for a whole company.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Prosa very well managed, cost concious company - very stable - sustainable growth.

Conswork/life balance isn't too bad; but it's not great either - should allow tele-commuting.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider offering better work-life balance, including tele-communting

Good work/life balance, pay and benefits are fair. Much of the staff has been staying with ISO for a long time.

    Actuarial Analyst (Current Employee)
    Jersey City, NJ

Prosdifferent division may have different cultures and different style of management. Jobs are mostly routinary, and can be boring most of the time. A very good start for the actuarial profession.

Conspromotion is not that often, and opportunities are limited. Jobs largely related to ensure data quality, can be very boring.

Advice to Senior Managementmanagement are very competent, but need to be more innovative and constructive in coping with the change in the insurance industry.

    Unhappy "A Player"

    IT Engineer (Current Employee)
    Jersey City, NJ

Prostechnology used here is very good; if you can stay away from all the politics and negativity and fighting you can learn a lot

Cons-new CIO+ promised a lot but has done very little
-it seems almost everyone is angry and demotivated
-existing management seems to get away with a lot of double talk and promoting/protecting their friends
-they are cutting back so far it looks like they plan on outsourcing the whole IT shop
-support in cleaning up the work environment from HR is lacking and unfocused

Advice to Senior Management"you will always get what you always got if you keep doing the same thing"; not sure how to untangle this complicated mess

its all about who you know

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Prosif you are connected with the right people in power, you will have some protection and security in your job

Conslots of entrenched long term managers who will never leave because they would not be able to get a job elsewhere. since they always worked for ISO, they have no other frame of reference for doing things differently

Advice to Senior Managementstop agonizing over how to retain all the A-players who keep quitting. the only way to stop the talent drain is for the 20-30-40 year managers to step aside and let new thinkers run the show.
