Former Employee - Senior Engineer in Albuquerque, NM

I worked at Intel Corporation full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Salary and benefits were excellent. Flexible work schedule is a definite plus. Company will provide training on the equipment and process by paying for vendor courses and the online training materials provide additional resource to get up to speed. Networking with other engineers can provide a great knowledge resource if they have the time to train and/or help you with a project.

    Cons

The higher the grade level, the expectations increase tremendously and if your manager does not have your back, you will be thrown under the bus. Culture of fear has resulted in bringing out the worst behavior in otherwise decent people. Cooperation between departments has degraded over time and folks are protective of their turf and will often beat down projects on the basis that they 'just don't like them'. Many co-workers are pitted against one another by their manager. Managers play favorites and are often technical folks that are incompetent when dealing with personnel matters.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should be an open door policy to discuss roadblocks and issues with managers but being open and honest will often result in backlash in the future as the manager will use information against their own direct report. No incentive to innovate as the culture created by management is fear and reprisal should a project cause problems.

Former Employee - Manufacturing Technician in Albuquerque, NM

I worked at Intel Corporation full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great pay, time off, and health insurance

    Cons

Crappy schedules, a lot of technicians get stuck working nights 7pm-7am and cannot get off of them. You have to work weekends and holidays all of the time also. Lately raises have been very little or none at all. Biggest of all, you have to worry "will I have a job next year, or will I have to move to another state just to hopefully keep it if I am lucky?".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make it easier to move from the technician role into other areas of the company besides supervisor or engineering. Support techs that want to move into other areas of the business like accounting, finance or HR. Make it more fair for everyone and rotate the night shift schedule between ALL employees. The 16% night shift differential is NOT anywhere near enough compensation for the sacrifice to your body and home life that working nights is!

I have been working at Intel Corporation

    Pros

If technology tickles you, you won't be bored
    Compensation above average
    Good work-life balance

    Cons

    Some jobs discourage creativity
Some sites have bad management (not all sites) - choose carefully where you choose to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Weed out bad managers, especially those who beat up on their workforce to get results. Again, not all managers are bad, but some definitely are.
