Pros
Intel is a true meritocracy. If you do the work and excel, you can go as far as you want. The pay was excellent for a person with no experience in the field, and there were plenty of intangible benefits as well. Quarterly bonuses for meeting production goals and parties and events were all part of the Intel experience. If I had the opportunity, I would work there again without hesitation.
Cons
The 12 hour overnight shifts I was hired for were very difficult on my home life. If you have a family or small children, I would think hard about how you're going to make it work. But for the right person, it's a fantastic opportunity.
Advice to Senior Management
In my time at Intel Hudson, the only issue I could see was the the semi-constant fear that the facility was redundant and that massive changes (layoffs, closing, etc) were always on the horizon. This was pretty hard on morale for obvious reasons.
Pros
Intel will go out of their way to make working there a Great Place to Work (GPTW). Many benefits not found in most companies, ie: free fruit, drinks, massage chairs, massages! Many cash rewards weekly/monthly/quarterly.
Cons
Often good ideas go un-noticed until the "right" person mentions it. Many decisions become knee-jerk rather than pro-active. Job postings are sent out with specific people in mind.
Advice to Senior Management
In the quest to be a GPTW, it becomes an additional burden to those who must support the extra work so as others may enjoy a skewed shift or working a temp assignment in another divison. This benefit to some becomes a burden to others in the group.
Pros
Exciting Cutting Edge Research, Free hand
Cons
Sometimes slow decisions making, multiple projects with same goals
Pros
Good experience to fill knowledge base and gain experience in the industry. Definitely good to have on your resume. Lots of smart people.
Cons
Hours can be long and very competitive atmosphere, a lot is expected from the employees so its not as social as some other places.
Pros
solid company, reasonably good benefits
Cons
very bizarre corporate culture. oddly cut-throat in nature.
Advice to Senior Management
work more closely with your acquisition companies. the impression is that offshore labor is far more valued than US labor
Pros
Intel is a great company to work for. Good pay, good benefits and good environment.
Cons
Management is sometimes too tough on employees. Expect a strict code of work conduct. You have to be a thorough professional and high quality performer. It's a cut-throat environment and a very high paced company. If you can't handle pressure and deliver results on time, then you will be in trouble and could lose your job in this company.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more supportive of your employees.
Pros
You have flexibility. You can do little work and be paid well.
Cons
Not all business sections within Intel have the same potential for growth reward etc.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to treat each year different. Not just hand out the same reviews from last year.
Pros
Cutting edge technology, strong industry position. Smart engineers.
Cons
Most of implementation is leveraged from previous designs using new transistors on silicone. Few opportunities for real innovative thinking.
Pros
Good flexibility with benefits and balance time agains long work hours.
Cons
Advancement opportunities, reward for good performance is inadequate if role is removed from direct revenue impact.
Advice to Senior Management
If you are running as a 24x7 "industrial\ technology revolution factory" be honest about that. Salaried engineering professionals are not best handles in the same way as hourly factory workers.
Pros
Positive experience: Intel in comparison to other acquirers did a very good job of integrating the company into the corporate entity.
Cons
Chips is king, all other areas take a back seat.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep focused on high margin chip business.
