Pros
Lot of learning opportunities
Some flexibility at work.
Ability to expand your knowledge in various technical and management fields.
Since Intel has a decent reputation good for RCG's to start their career.
Cons
Intense pressure- some people die at work due to the intense stress/pressure. Several people develop severe health complications due to stress.
No career growth opportunities.
No recognition.
Use and throw attitude by management (towards employees).
Incompetent and unreliable management.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior management doesn't have a clue about today's market opportunities. The entire company wants to thrive on Andy's (Grove) legacy rather than innovate and build something new.
Pros
Strong on environmental protection and employee health
Cons
Founder's pride in creating a workaholic atmosphere which is:
Stressful, less productive than could be and much is being skipped
Some are not tasked enough
Your burying your "super chip" is a bad decision especially when a new competitor now has it (Didn't know?)
Advice to Senior Management
The same as above, release it to market! Fast!
More life balance
Pros
Great package overall.
Lifestyle is very relaxing.
Open environment.
Very casual dress code.
Facilities offer great things like on-site gym, medical facility, cafeteria, softball field, basketball and volleyball courts.
People (other than some management at TMG) are pretty cool.
Multicultural (it seems like a UN meeting everytime).
Cons
Compensation ($) wasn't great unless you have higher degrees and not even then.
Management at ATTD has a lot of flaws and they're not very open to change.
Workload at ATTD can be a little too much very often.
Not everyone is up to date when it comes to technology, so you have to deal with that.
Some people might be to hard to deal with.
Advice to Senior Management
Have a better communication accross the board, not only with middle management, because they do not give the right message, it gets lost in transition.
Thank your employees for their efforts.
Encourage professional development by acting on it, not only talking about it.
Pros
1) Competitive Pay Package 2) Work life balance 3) Ability to change jobs internally 4) Large corporation with opportunities to learn other functional areas.
Cons
1) Decision making is not very fast at all levels. It takes very long time to make any product decisions.
Advice to Senior Management
1) Intel is not very nimble. It is like steering Titanic. Find a way to make the company more agile.
Pros
Excellent work life balance. Recently a family emergency arised and I had to work from home for 2 weeks. And this was after taking a long vacation. I worked out a plan with my manager and started working from home.
Cons
It is too big a place to have your ideas heard out. You need to be connected.. But I guess it is like that in big Corporations.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue what you are doing, but do increase the salaries. It is been a long time since we are stuck in small incremental increases in the compensation.
Pros
great place to work, the place is well run, you can makes lots of cash lots of opportunities and sabbatical
Cons
long hours stressful environment no life out side work
Advice to Senior Management
listen to your employees they are the one making you sucessful
Pros
All employees knew that they were accountable for the success of the company. The corporate culture valued direct and open conversations.
Cons
The locations that Intel is in geographically are not culturally diverse. Intel did little to support and to retain a diverse workforce.
Advice to Senior Management
Always have open discussions with employees even if the topic is difficult. For example be forthcoming about pending job redeployments
Pros
Cutting edge technology and so much to learn - this can be a very good stepping stone to a very successful career. Opportunties are plenty, but one has to be self driven. Don't expect management to actively get involved in career development (although that is changing as well).
Cons
Everyone wants to solve problems. Even managers are evaulated on their particular contribution 0 it is not enough to say that you enabled your team to achieve great things. Micromanagement is rampant and decision making structure is not good.
Advice to Senior Management
Executive level managers are doing a great job of steering the company - taking risks and bold moves to find new growth areas. Middle level managers are lousy (not all) and there is lot of dead wood that needs to get cleaned. Messages and vision from top does not trickle down well.
Pros
Good opportunities for skill advancement and job changes. The pay is good and the company seems resistant to recession.
Cons
There are no offices and cubicles are not private at all. Being housed in large cramp buildings sort of ruins the experience. 5 minutes late for work and you are walking 5-10 minutes to get to your desk.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work.
Pros
Intel offers a good salary and benefits however it isn't very fair in annual compensation increases. the technology is 1st class and it is rewarding to work with equipment that is at the cutting edge. It would be nice to increase our efficiency with that technology however CE stands in the way.
Cons
When I started with Intel in 1997 it was a GREAT company to work for. Today however, Managers are micromanaged which results in a very stressed and unproductive environment. There is a very vibrant 'good old boy' network within the management structure which is not healthy. This use to be a very proactive company and is now a very reactive company. Evidence is a poorly structured and performance 'down sizing' in May of 2009. Hundreds of employees lost their jobs the same quarter that they announce billions of dollar profits and then we are looking to hire new employees within the next 6-12 months. Watching your back and walking on eggs is common.
Advice to Senior Management
This is a production company not a support company. The levels of middle management is top heavy and not needed. How many VP's do we have?
