Pros
You can learn as much as you want and are surrounded by some exceptional individuals. You can branch out and cross disciplines, it is all up to you. If you have the right data that backs up your position, high probability of success.
Cons
As with a big corporation, it seems that there are too many layers before a decision gets done. Sometimes frustrating to always need "alignment" with others.
Advice to Senior Management
Assign objectives, not tasks.
Pros
Although the pay is great, Intel asks a lot from it's employees. I enjoy, personally, many of my co workers. I really like living in Portland - there isn't many finer cities in the USA. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with my current role and management structure.
Cons
Intel seems to change organizationally a lot. Middle management seems to have political infighting that is completely unnecessary. I prefer a place where people work together better and where the communication between employees are better. Intel also tends to be a bit scattered and not very disciplined when it comes to getting work done. Things are done fast in my area, but not very well thought out.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work for supporting the employees at all levels. There seems to be a lot of politics in middle management. I would spank the middle managers who seem to be playing politics and not focusing on delighting the customers.
Pros
At Intel I work with many competent and some very brilliant people. I'm allowed a very flexible work environment. The problems are really interesting, and working for the world's largest semiconductor manufacturer is pretty cool.
Cons
Intel is a very "Not Invented Here" company. It is so large and siloed that there can be a lot of duplicated effort. Trying to figure out how to do software that's really relevant to the main business of the company can be difficult.
Advice to Senior Management
Figure out what you really want to do with software and make sure everybody knows it.
Pros
Working at Intel is what you make of it. You have the opportunity to advance in your career and grow. I have held 4 different positions at Intel ranging from entry level technician to Network Engineer in the last 12 years. I have worked in AV, Lan support, VOIP, network Security, Wireless and other technologies. It has been great!
Cons
As I said before, Intel is what you make of it. Some people work tons of hours and kill themselves. This is not necessary at Intel, but you have to learn to push back and manage your workload.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work focusing on our customers and taking care of employees.
Pros
Pay and benefits are good. Work/life balance is good.
Cons
Since Intel is not growing it's workforce too much anymore, it is difficult to move up the ladder.
Advice to Senior Management
Find a way to get into mobile.
Pros
The company does a great job to support and take care of it's employees. Whether it's career advancement and or education, to health, to work life balance. The two managers I had the pleasure to work with supported me and my work and fought for me when my contract was up to keep me longer. I defnitely felt like my work made a positive impact on the company.
Cons
Intel has a unique culture of work hard and play hard. That culture tends to get caught up in over thinking and too many meetings. It could be difficult to get any actual work done.
If you don't like being walled in by gray cubes you won't like working there.
Pros
Good place for non exampt workers.
Cons
Process engineer often take lots of abuse from yield engineers. Process engineers are often called tool owner at Intel. Work-life balance is poor especially at Hillsboro site.
Advice to Senior Management
Strive to be the great place to work.
Pros
If you are a hardware engineer, you would love it because you could be designing one of the most complex things in the world. Job stability is something that you would like.
Cons
Based on which group you work on your stress level will vary. Could be very bad. Salary is not the best. You can easily find someone beating the intel salary if you are good engineer.
Advice to Senior Management
Intel always seems to make everyone happy independent whether the group makes money or loses money. This caues that people who work hard and deliver products in time to make money for intel to be treated on par with people who dont make money for intel. When it omes to performance reviews and pay structures, I feel that the work stress and contributios of key groups are not reflected in the pay accordingly.
Pros
Compensation was excellent, both pay and stock options.
Cons
Very political. Senior management was poor. Very selfish.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to be more human on business decisions. You don't invest in a direction, only to change your mind without making the course.
Pros
Great place to gain new skills
Cons
Bad place to get any feedback, guidance or direction
