I have been working at Intel Corporation full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Fantastic work/life balance, minimal interference from management in dtd operations, good compensation and excellent benefits, consistently changing technology keeps the job interesting.

    Cons

Only one real drawback, it is tough to break out of the technician title if that is where you start. Working on my graduate degree now and still no light at the end of the tunnel.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The business model seems to be working pretty well. Keep up the good work and kudos for your veteran hiring initiative, there are a lot of great guys I've met since I started here that have transitioned from the service.

  5. Don't take a D1DR process engineering position. Really - it isn't worth it.

I have been working at Intel Corporation full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The base salary is competitive. That is about it. Maybe free fruit? But the pay really isn't worth the pain. It really sucks.

    Cons

Slavery. 24/7 oncall and you will get called. Not enough technicians or engineers on any shift to get everything done. ZERO work life "effectiveness." You want a life/free time? TOO BAD. Regularly work 80-100HPW.

Intel claims to "pay marginal and bonus high" this isn't true.

Also - new hires regularly make more than engineers with 3-4 years of experience. New hire salaries increase with cost of living. "Standard" raises for successful employees do not.

Only reason to take/keep this job would be if you needed a green card.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay less and hire more engineers and technicians for all factory operations across all 4 shifts. The quest for lowering headcount has drained all the talented/intelligent employees from your company. I want out asap.

Good company for electronics engineers. Not so good for software engineers.

I have been working at Intel Corporation full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great work ethics and development opportunities. The site facilities are very good and you can find smart people around you. The compensation package is competitive in the market, although you can find better options outside.

    Cons

Although it is one of the biggest software companies in the world, it is strongly focused on its hardware. I found several software engineers working more in electronics than in developing/designing software. So maybe your software engineering skills will not grow very much here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing a good job. Even though the total compensation package is good, you could increase the base salary to be more competitive in the market.

I have been working at Intel Corporation full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Recognition for technical contributions, leadership in hardware (if you do silicon you should work for Intel at one point in your career.) Deep pockets. Culture of personal responsibility. Wide latitude in locations and ability to work remotely with your group.

    Cons

Focus on individual contributions rather than team value. Hard to integrate for mid-career entry employees. There is an established career advancement path that you should move along in terms of promotion if you want to enjoy a long career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Revamp the "focal" process. It gets politicized -- e.g. becomes subjective -- and adversely affects the motivation of many valuable people.

Poor mid level management. Works like a government org with lots of red tape to get simple stuff moving.

    Pros

sabbatical/profit sharing decent health insurance even though now comapny is moving most of teh burden to employees

    Cons

very bad mid level managemnet. Most managers are morons and just beat people. Hardly 1% managers have a vnc and are technically involved. they dont care about employee development. Nepotism seems to be rampant. Most teams have core group of people and they are the ones promoted.

I have been working at Intel Corporation full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great place to work on a variety of projects and receive global experience. I can honestly say I was never, ever bored and was always challenged to be my very best. The company values constructive confrontation and is very data driven so you need to be able to thrive in that kind of environment to succeed. Intel also has a great sabbatical program which helps make up for the challenges in work/life balance. Overall, I'm very proud to have had the opportunity to work at Intel and recommend the company.

    Cons

Work/Life balance can be challenging; however, I believe this is probably true of most global technology companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward structure should be re-architected to align more directly with performance and promotions should be reworked to create more opportunities for advancement.
